He succeeds company co-founder Mike Golden, who will continue as president. Thompson, who also earlier served as the president of PayPal, previously worked with Michael Rubin, now the CEO of ShopRunner's majority shareholder, Kynetic. "During his tenure as PayPal's president, Scott joined the ShopRunner board of directors and we got to see firsthand how much value Scott could add to our business," said Golden. "Michael and I both felt he would be the perfect long-term CEO." ShopRunner's network includes more than 60 retailers, such as Toys”R”Us, American Eagle Outfitters, PetSmart, GNC and Sports Authority. ShopRunner is headquartered in Philadelphia, but earlier this year acquired Menlo Park-based ShopSanity. Under the agreement, Alexza can sell up to $20 million in stock to Azimuth over a two-year period. This deal replaces a similar facility that was established in May 2010 and expired after its 24-month term. No shares were issued under the previous facility. "This flexible financing facility is an important component of our portfolio of financing options, giving us the potential ability to raise capital efficiently," said Thomas King, the president and CEO of Alexza. http://www.alexza.com/ http://nocache-phx.corporate-ir.net/phoenix.zhtml?c=196151&p=RssLanding&cat=news&id=1717222 _____________________________________________ o New NASA Supercomputer Facility to Advance Earth Research Moffett Field, Calif. -- Space agency NASA said it plans to open a new supercomputing facility designed to help scientists tackle Earth science challenges with global high-resolution satellite observations. The facility, to be known as the NASA Earth Exchange (NEX), will act as a virtual lab, allowing researchers to explore and analyze massive amounts of data sets in hours rather than months. Scientists will be able to produce complex, interdisciplinary studies of world phenomena and share their findings on the NEX platform. "Because of the large volume of high-resolution Landsat data, scientists who wanted to study the planet as a whole prior to NEX needed to invest tremendous amounts of time and effort to develop high-end computational methods rather than focus on important scientific problems," said Tsengdar Lee, the high-end computing program manager at NASA headquarters. "NEX greatly simplifies researchers' access to and analysis of high-resolution data like Landsat." NEX was develope3d by a team at NASA's Ames Research Center in Moffett Field. http://nex.arc.nasa.gov http://www.nasa.gov/home/hqnews/2012/jul/HQ_12-248_NEX_Landsat_Available.html _____________________________________________ o Palo Alto-Based Sitoa Global Raises $500,000 from Ingenium Capital Palo Alto,.
