Previous backers Javelin Venture Partners and MHS Capital also contributed. Sequoia's Bryan Schreier will join the company's board of directors. Launched in 2009, Thumbtack said it directly connects consumers to 250,000 vetted service professionals in all 50 states, delivering multiple quotes within 24 hours. Citing people with knowledge of the situation, Reuters said that the company is looking to launch larger iPhones with screen sizes of 4.7 and 5.7 inches next year. Samsung's Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 2 each feature screens of at least 5 inches. Also on tap for later this year could be cheaper versions of the iPhone 5 -- possibly selling for as little as $99 -- in a range of new colors. http://finance.yahoo.com/news/apple-looking-bigger-iphone-screens-054125421.html _____________________________________________ o Supreme Court Rules Companies Can't Patent Human Genes Washington, DC -- In a case certain to have a profound affect on the nation's biotechnology industry, the Supreme Court on Thursday ruled unanimously that human genes cannot be patented by companies. In its decision, the court called DNA "a product of nature and not patent eligible merely because it has been isolated." The court, however, did rule that artificial genetic material, known as cDNA, is patentable. The case involved a Utah-based company called Myriad Genetics, which had patented genes associated with an increased risk of breast and ovarian cancer. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), which opposed Myriad in the case, said the court "lifted a major barrier to progress in further understanding how we can better treat and prevent diseases." Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Cupertino Electric said the acquisition will bolster its data center offerings.
