o San Jose-Based Adobe to Acquire France's Neolane for $600 Million

San Jose, Calif. -- Adobe Systems, the San Jose-based developer of web publishing software, said it will pay approximately $600 million in cash to acquire France's Neolane, a developer of cross-channel campaign management technology. The deal is expected to close in July, with Neolane CEO Stéphane Dehoche continuing to lead the group as part of Adobe's Digital Marketing business. Neolane's platform is designed to help marketers automate campaigns across the web, email, social, mobile, call center, direct mail and point of sale. Brad Rencher, the senior vice president and general manager of Adobe's Digital Marketing business, said the acquisition "brings critical cross-channel campaign management capabilities to the Adobe Marketing Cloud." Neolane has more than 400 customers worldwide.

o Consumer Reports: Some Printers Wasting Up to 70% or 80% of Ink

Yonkers, N.Y. -- A new series of tests by Consumer Reports found that some inkjet printers waste as much as 70% or 80% of their cartridges on maintenance chores such as cleaning print heads, costing consumers upwards in $100 extra a year. The publication said the bulk of the waste typically occurs when the unit is preparing to print after sitting idle for some time. "We accept that printer maintenance is required for optimal printing, and that not all printers can be as miserly as the most frugal model we found," said Paul Reynolds, electronics editor of Consumer Reports. "But, if manufacturers can make some printers that are frugal, why can’t they better apply those design lessons to make more models use ink efficiently?" The complete report is available at the link below.

o Study: Worldwide Developer Population to Top 26 Million by 2019

Santa Cruz, Calif. -- Despite expected slow growth in North America, the worldwide developer population is expected to balloon to 26.4 million by 2019, up from 18.2 million today, according to a new study Santa Cruz-based Evans Data. The bulk of the growth, the firm said, will be is the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, with India and China leading the way. "APAC has shown the strongest growth for several years," said Janel Garvin, the CEO of Evans Data. "India is, of course, the main powerhouse that's driving such a strong surge in developers in that region, but China is also starting to come online and we expect that once it hits its potential China will become a rival to India on sheer numbers of developers."
