o Cupertino-Based Apple Introduces Two New iPhone Models

Cupertino, Calif. -- Apple on Tuesday introduced a pair of new iPhones -- the faster 5s, which includes a fingerprint security sensor, and the cheaper 5c, with a starting price-tag of $99 in five available colors. The 5s is powered by the company's new A7 chip, making the iPhone the first smartphone with 64-bit architecture. It also includes an 8 megapixel camera and a fingerprint sensor to unlock the phone, among several new features. The unit, which is made of aluminum and available in gold, silver and gray, will run from $199 for 16GB to $399 for 64GB when it is released Sept. 20. The 5c, with a four-inch display, is made of plastic and available in blue, green, pink, yellow and white. It is powered by Apple's A6 chip and also features an 8 megapixel camera. Prices will be $99 for the 16GB model and $199 for the 32GB when it is released, also on Sept. 20. A new feature-rich iOS 7, featuring a completely redesigned user interface, also is due out Sept. 18. More information is at the links below.

o Fremont-Based Synnex to Acquire IBM Customer Care Services Business

Fremont, Calif. -- Synnex, a Fremont-based provider of business process services to resellers, retailers and original equipment manufacturers, said on Tuesday that it will pay $505 million to acquire IBM's worldwide customer care services business. The deal, expected to close in the coming months, includes $430 million in cash and $75 million in stock. Synnex plans to combine the business with its New York-based Concentrix unit, which will have approximately 45,000 employees servicing over 300 clients in more than 40 languages. "This acquisition will make Concentrix a global top 10 player in a growing market," said Kevin Murai, the president and CEO of Synnex.

o Virtustream Lands $40 Million Round, Led by SAP

San Francisco -- Virtustream, a Maryland-based developer of software designed to move complex IT environments to the cloud, with West Coast operations in San Francisco, said on Tuesday it has landed $40 million in its fourth round of funding, led by partner SAP. The company said it will use the funds to expand capacity for its infrastructure-as-a-service, as well as further develop its xStream cloud management software. The two companies have worked together since 2010, when Virtustream was among the first cloud providers certified to deploy business applications from SAP. Virtustream now has raised $115 million since its inception.

o Palo Alto-Based Sutter Hill Leads $27M Round for Benu Networks

Palo Alto, Calif. -- Sutter Hill Ventures, the Palo Alto-based venture capital firm, said on Tuesday it has led a new $26.6 million round of funding for Massachusetts-based Benu Networks, a developer of software for fixed and mobile broadband operators. Spark Capital and Comcast Ventures also took part in the company's second round. The company said that it will use the funding to drive customer acquisition and accelerate adoption of its technology. Stefan Dyckerhoff, a managing director at Sutter Hill, will join the company's board of directors.
