o Dell Shareholders Approve Founder's $24.9 Billion Buyout Offer

Round Rock, Texas -- Computer giant Dell said on Thursday that its shareholders have approved a $24.9 billion buyout of the company by CEO Michael Dell and technology investment firm Silver Lake Partners. Under the deal, which ends a contentious battle to take the company private, Dell stockholders will receive $13.88 a share in cash. "As a private enterprise, with a strong private-equity partner, we'll serve our customers with a single-minded purpose and drive the innovations that will help them achieve their goals," said Dell, the company's founder. Dell had been battling for several months over the future direction of the company with activist investor Carl Icahn. On Monday, however, Icahn bowed out of the bidding, clearing the way for the deal. The acquisition is now expected to close by the beginning of November, ending Dell's quarter century as a publically traded company.
