Mountain View, Calif. -- Citrus Lane, the Mountain View-based developer of a subscription e-commerce site focused on products for young families, said on Wednesday it has raised $5.1 million in its first round of funding. GGV Capital and Greylock Partners participated in the round, which the company will use to continue expanding its business and adding several new hires. For $25 a month, members of Citrus Lane receive monthly care packages of 4-5 "best of" products based on their child's age. The company curates its recommendations from partner brands such as Green Toys, Weleda, Zoli and Episencial. o AOL Looking to Boost Ad Revenue with Launch of Video Hub

New York -- Looking to boost sales of online video ads, AOL has launched a new hub offering premium video across 14 content channels. The hub, known as AOL On, will consolidate the company's video offerings under one umbrella, with content viewable across desktop, tablet, mobile and connected TV devices. AOL said the network will feature the most relevant videos in real-time from a library of over 320,000, created by both the company and more than 1,000 outside publishers. The company is pitching its hub to potential advertisers as a "complement or viable alternative to traditional TV-buying strategies." "We are well-positioned not only from a scale perspective, but from a programming perspective to capture TV dollars," said Ran Harnevo, the senior vice president of video for AOL On. "It is undeniable that online video has strategic advantages relative to TV, and we have the programming, audience and measurement tools to not only target audiences but find them where they are on the web."

o Survey: 75% of U.S. Citizens Access Government Services Online

Arlington, Va. -- Three-quarters of U.S. citizens say they routinely use websites and portals to access government services -- second only to Singapore among countries included in a new survey by Accenture. Other countries included were Australia, France, Germany, India and the U.K. All told, nearly half of all citizens surveyed believe that interacting with the government is easy, and almost a third say it's actually easier to access services from the government than private-sector companies. More than 70% say they already use the Internet for submitting and tracking government forms and payments, and more than half want to use more online channels in the future. "Digital citizens are empowered in ways that previous generations could only imagine," said Stephen Rohleder, the group CEO of Accenture's global Health & Public Service business.

o Free Shipping Day 2012 Scheduled for Dec. 17

Billings, Mont. -- Free Shipping Day, a day-long event offering free shipping from hundreds of online merchants with delivery by Christmas Eve, will take place Monday, Dec. 17, organizers announced Tuesday. "For the first time in our five-year history, we've scheduled Free Shipping Day for a Monday, positioning it to compete with Cyber Monday's online sales," said event founder Luke Knowles. "Monday's historically are the heaviest online-shopping day during the holiday season." The event was launched in 2008 by Knowles, creator of the website FreeShipping.org. The idea, he said, was to give merchants a way to extend the online holiday shopping season, which in previous years had ended around Dec. 11 -- at one time considered the deadline to place orders in time for Christmas. Last year's event included 2,600 participating merchants who generated more than $1 billion in sales, making Free Shipping Day the highest-earning Friday in retail history, according to comScore.

For many workers, there is also the desire to take immediate action and go on the offensive to get hired as quickly as possible. After all, it is better to be proactive than reactive, right? Not necessarily. Stephen A. Laser, a business psychologist and author of Out-of-Work and Over-40, suggests you need to take some time to regroup and make a plan.
