Other partners, including Box and salesforce.com, will help with education and mentorship programs. "Launching in the Bay Area allows us to take a proven model in Washington, DC and replicate it in a city that provides SaaS entrepreneurs an opportunity to tap into some of the best enterprise companies, mentors and investors in the country," said Sean Glass, managing partner at Acceleprise. The application deadline for the first class in San Francisco is August 1. Financial terms of the deal, first announced last month, were not disclosed. Founded in 2000, Peak 10 provides hybrid IT infrastructure services, including data center services, private and enterprise cloud infrastructure, and managed services. The company operates 24 data centers in 10 U.S. markets. GI made the investment from its GI Partners Fund IV, a private equity fund with $2 billion of capital commitments. The firm has invested in seven other IT infrastructure businesses, including Digital Realty Trust, The Telx Group and SoftLayer Technologies. http://www.gipartners.com http://www.peak10.com http://finance.yahoo.com/news/gi-partners-completes-acquisition-peak-120000114.html _____________________________________________ o Santa Clara-Based Benvenue Medical Lands $64 Million in Financing Santa Clara, Calif. -- Benvenue Medical, a Santa Clara-based developer of minimally invasive implants for spine repair, said on Wednesday it has raised $40 million in its fifth round of funding, as well as another $24 million in debt financing. New investor InterWest Partners led the round, which also included all of the company's major previous backers. Silicon Valley Bank was the sole debt provider. The company will use the proceeds to build its U.S. commercial presence, scale manufacturing, increase administrative functions and provide working capital to fund growth in operating activities. And by 2018, data usage will increase eight times the 2013 figure -- more than 383 times the traffic in 2008. The organization said the uptick underscores a pressing need to free up more wireless spectrum. "We need to redouble our efforts to work collaboratively to identify additional spectrum bands for mobile broadband use to meet future consumer demands," said Meredith Attwell Baker, the president and CEO of CTIA. http://www.ctia.org/resource-library/press-releases/archive/ctia-annual-survey-2013 _____________________________________________ o PBS to Target Digital Users With New Half-Hour Version of Sesame Street Arlington, Va. -- Big Bird will soon be coming to a digital device near you. Looking to extend the reach of its iconic children's program, PBS said on Wednesday it will launch a new half-hour version of Sesame Street this fall, both on-air and on digital platforms. Starting Sept. 1, the new program will air weekday afternoons, complimenting the one-hour series that airs weekday mornings. And for the first time, select episodes also will be available for free online at pbskids.org/video, as well as on the PBS Kids Video App and the PBS Kids Roku channel. Lesli Rotenberg, PBS's general manager of children's programming, said the move is designed to increase Sesame Street's audience with "a format that will make the series more accessible on mobile devices, where PBS Kids' reach is growing exponentially." http://www.pbs.org/about/news/archive/2014/sesame-street-half-hour/ _____________________________________________ o Briefly Noted: (Fremont, Calif.)
