o San Francisco-Based Databricks Raises $140 Million in Fourth Round

San Francisco -- Databricks, the San Francisco-based developer of a unified analytics platform designed to help data science teams collaborate with data engineering and lines of business to build data products, said it has raised $140 million in its fourth round of funding, led by Andreessen Horowitz. New Enterprise Associates (NEA) and Battery Ventures also participated in the round, which increased the company's total backing to $247 million since its inception. The company was founded by the team that created Apache Spark. "Less than 10 companies in the world are achieving the full potential of AI and the rest are really struggling. Databricks' mission is to simplify AI and bring it to the other 99% of enterprise organizations," said co-founder and CEO Ali Ghodsi. "This funding will enable us to expand our offering and bring it to many more markets."

o Redwood City-Based WorkSpan Lands $9 Million in First Round

Redwood City, Calif. -- WorkSpan, the Redwood City-based developer of a network used by marketers to execute joint marketing programs, said on Wednesday it has landed $9 million in its first round of funding, led by Mayfield. The company is making its public debut following the completion of an early availability program that included SAP, Intel, CenturyLink and Infosys. Amit Sinha, WorkSpan's chief customer officer, said the company's technology provides a "network and collaborative apps to seamlessly coordinate marketing efforts" with any partner company or group of partners. Mayank Bawa, the company's CEO, also previously co-founded and led big data company Aster Data Systems, which was acquired by Teradata in 2011.

San Francisco -- ART19, a San Francisco-based developer of podcast hosting, distribution and ad serving technology, said on Wednesday it has raised $7.5 million in its first round of funding, co-led by Bertelsmann Digital Media Investments (BDMI) and DCM Ventures. United Talent Agency, Gallo Digital, Zach Coelius and Array Ventures also took part in the round. "This capital will enable us to greatly accelerate product development and continue supporting revenue growth for our customers." said founder and CEO Sean Carr. "More than 50% of podcast listening now happens internationally. ART19 will soon be expanding into foreign markets." Customers include Midroll Media, DGital Media, Wondery, VOX Media, iHeartMedia, Feral Audio, reVolver and The New York Times.

Mountain View, Calif. -- Intuit, the Mountain View-based developer of financial management software such as QuickBooks and TurboTax, said that Neil Williams will step down as its chief financial officer (CFO) in January. Williams, who has held the role since 2008, will be succeeded by Michelle Clatterbuck, the senior vice president of finance for Intuit's Consumer Tax Group and acting finance leader for its Small Business Group. "Neil has decided to step away and embark on a new chapter, freeing him up from full-time employment to pursue other personal goals," said Chairman and CEO Brad Smith, adding that Williams has "built a deep bench of strong financial leaders that makes a seamless transition possible."
