The organization, which represents more than 1,000 cities with populations of 30,000 or more, is seeking broadband hookups in every school and library, as well as Wi-Fi access in every classroom. The FCC is planning to vote on several potential changes to E-Rate this spring, potentially reallocating funds used to subsidize older technologies like pagers and traditional copper telephone systems, and shifting that money to broadband. President Obama last June unveiled the White House's ConnectED initiative, a program aimed at connecting 99% of K-12 students to broadband by 2017. http://www.marketwired.com/press-release/us-mayors-urge-fcc-to-take-action-on-upgrading-internet-access-for-americas-schools-1890641.htm _____________________________________________ o Briefly Noted: (Palo Alto, Calif.)
