San Francisco -- Quantcast, a San Francisco-based developer of real-time advertising and audience measurement technology, said it has acquired U.K.-based Struq, a developer of technology designed to help advertisers personalize their ads for online users. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Struq will become part of Quantcast Advertise and the two companies will combine their offices in London, New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles. "With Struq, we saw an outstanding opportunity to create a company that could offer marketers the full spectrum of real-time ad solutions," said Konrad Feldman, the co-founder and CEO of Quantcast.

Santa Clara, Calif. -- Chegg, the Santa Clara-based provider of online study tools and textbooks, said on Thursday it has acquired Internships.com, a division of Burbank-based CareerArc Group that operates a student-focused internship marketplace. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Chegg said the acquisition will add 2 million registered students, 380 university relationships and 90,000 internships to its Career Center. "Adding Internships.com enables Chegg to fundamentally improve matching between students and employers, helping businesses to better identify the best candidates and students to develop the real world job skills they'll need upon graduation," said Dan Rosensweig, the chairman and CEO of Chegg.

o Emeryville-Based Gracenote Acquires HWW, Expands into Australia
Emeryville, Calif. -- Gracenote, an Emeryville-based division of Tribune Media that maintains a database featuring descriptions of nearly 200 million music tracks and TV listings, said on Thursday it has paid $19 million to acquire HWW, an Australian provider of TV and movie data, from owner Mi9. Gracenote said the acquisition expands its international reach into the Australian TV and digital entertainment market, positioning the company for growth in the Asia-Pacific region. "We are seeing increasing demand from customers to support Australia and the surrounding region," said CEO John Batter. "With the addition of HWW and the recent acquisition of What's-ON, Gracenote is now in a position to support our customers and help expand their products and services in Australia, India and throughout Asia-Pacific."

o KPMG Acquires Assets of Redwood City-Based Qubera Solutions
Redwood City, Calif. -- Tax and advisory giant KPMG said on Tuesday it has acquired certain assets of Redwood City-based cybersecurity firm Qubera Solutions, which provides identity and access management services. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. KPMG said the acquisition strengthens its ability to help clients safeguard valuable information. "As threats from cyber criminals grow in scale, companies are facing a tsunami of new legislative, organizational and regulatory requirements to ensure that they are managing and protecting their critical information appropriately," said John Veihmeyer, the global chairman of KPMG and chairman and CEO of KPMG in the U.S. "These threats force companies to reexamine their potential vulnerabilities and seek counsel from experienced global providers."

o San Jose-Based Echelon Sells Grid Operations to S&T for $4.9 Million
San Jose, Calif. -- Echelon, a San Jose-based developer of control networking platforms for the industrial Internet of Things, said it has sold its grid operations to S&T, a European IT systems provider focused on smart energy products and services, for $4.9 million in cash. The Smart Grid Modernization business now has been transferred to Networked Energy Services Corp., a U.S.-based affiliate of S&T. Approximately 60 former Echelon employees who will run the NES grid business, which will maintain its primary R&D facility in San Jose. "This transaction represents a significant step in our long-term strategy focus on the Industrial Internet of Things market, while improving our operating results," said Ron Sege, the chairman and CEO of Echelon.

The company will use the proceeds from the refinancing to retire its old revolving credit facility, which was due to mature in May 2016.
