o Santa Clara-Based Cohere Technologies Raises $35 Million in Funding

Santa Clara, Calif. -- Cohere Technologies, a Santa Clara-based developer of wireless communications technology, said on Tuesday it has raised $35 million in its third round of funding, led by Telstra. Previous backers New Enterprise Associates (NEA) and Lightspeed Ventures, along with new investors Macquarie Capital and AME Cloud Ventures also participated. Cohere said it will use the proceeds to bring to market its newest product, known as OTFS (Orthogonal Time Frequency and Space), which is designed to create higher capacity and coverage in wireless networks. "This funding enables us to move OTFS closer to the market and begin working with strategic groups on enabling this technology in next generation wireless specifications and solutions," said Shlomo Rakib, the co-founder, president and CEO of Cohere.

Palo Alto, Calif. -- Skycure, a Palo Alto-based developer of mobile tools designed to detect and prevent cyber attacks, said on Tuesday it has landed $8 million in its first round of funding, led by Shasta Ventures. New York Life Insurance, Pitango Venture Capital and several individuals also participated in the round, which the company will use to bolster its sales and marketing efforts and expand R&D activities, including hiring in the U.S. and Israel. Rami Kalish, managing general partner and co-founder of Pitango, and Jayaram Bhat, the former CEO of Zenprise and venture partner at Shasta Ventures, have joined the company's board of directors. In addition, Skycure has named Varun Kohli as its vice president of marketing and Daniel Kandel as its head of R&D.

o Augmented Pixels Raises $1 Million, Relocates to The Hive in Palo Alto

Palo Alto, Calif. -- Augmented Pixels, a developer of augmented and virtual reality technology designed to help businesses generate sales, said on Tuesday it has raised $1 million in seed funding and relocated its headquarters into the offices of one of its investors, Palo Alto-based startup accelerator The Hive. Investors from Steltec Capital also participated. The company said it plans to work closely with The Hive's senior management team and leverage its infrastructure. It will use the funds to develop new technologies for 3D scanning and the creation of inexpensive content for virtual reality. Current customers include National Geographic, Harkus, Jayman and Zoom3D. "As the market for augmented reality and virtual reality technologies expands rapidly, many industries, including retail, real estate and interior design will be completely transformed and we will be the first to make this happen," said CEO Vitaliy Goncharuk.

o The Washington Post to Publish National Political Content on Flipboard

Palo Alto, Calif. -- The Washington Post plans to start integrating some of its national political content into Palo Alto-based social magazine app Flipboard, the company announced. Beginning in May, the Post will publish stories, profiles, analyses, videos and photographs of major 2016 presidential candidates. The fee-based packages, known as Flipboard Magazines, also will include lists of their top advisers, fact checks, social media presence and other information. The goal of the program is to help grow the Post's national audience. "By partnering with The Washington Post our readers can connect with their award-winning coverage, but also get richer perspectives on each candidate shared in their Flipboard Magazines," said Mike McCue, the CEO of Flipboard.

o Survey: Tech Companies Predict Improving Business Conditions

Santa Clara, Calif. -- Technology companies overwhelmingly expect improving business conditions and growth in 2015, with most planning to increase their headcount this year, according to a new survey by Silicon Valley Bank. More than three-quarters of respondents said they met or beat their revenue targets in 2014, and 71% expect business conditions to improve this year. Just 3% anticipate conditions getting worse, the lowest percentage since 2010. In addition, 77% plan to add employees in 2015, with nearly two thirds of those expecting to increase their headcount by more than 20%. "From globalization to hiring trends, and even more accurate forecasting, we're seeing a lot of positive signals for long-term growth in the results of the survey," said Greg Becker, the president and CEO of Silicon Valley Bank.
