o San Francisco-Based F50 Raises $2 Million in Seed Funding

San Francisco -- F50, the San Francisco-based developer of a private co-investment platform, said on Monday it has raised $2 million in its seed round of funding from several unspecified investment funds and angels. The company plans to use the proceeds to grow its team, particularly by adding developers to launch its online platform, and expand its network of investors. F50's platform is designed to connect early-stage startups with its network of more than 1,000 investors. The company's founding team includes Eric Ly, the co-founder and former CTO of LinkedIn, as well as Tel Iiu, a former executive vice president of Tencent.

o Report: White House Directs Agencies to Immediately Bolster Defenses

Washington, DC -- Hoping to prevent further hacking attacks against the federal government, the White House has directed all agencies to immediately bolster their defenses as part of what's being called a "30-day cybersecurity sprint," Nextgov reported. Tasks include strengthening anti-malware tools, immediately patching critical security holes, limiting the number of people with high-level access to systems and requiring employees to log in with smartcards or other ID in addition to passwords. In addition, a new "Cybersecurity Sprint Team," formed by federal CIO Tony Scott, will conduct a month-long review of the federal government's security practices. The measures come after the Office of Personnel Management recently disclosed a breach -- purportedly pulled off by Chinese hackers -- that affected 4 million current and former federal employees, though a federal employees union has since claimed it was far more widespread.

Identities of the investors were not disclosed. Sequent's services allow banks, payment processors, OEMs and mobile operators to offer their own branded mobile payment, loyalty, access control and transit services. "Sequent's products support the next wave of development in the wallet space, managing the complexity of mobile payments so that thousands of apps can use simple APIs to make payments at any store," said board member David Haines.
