o Palo Alto-Based Corona Labs Acquired by Perk.com

Palo Alto, Calif. -- Corona Labs, the Palo Alto-based creator of a mobile development platform, said on Monday it has been acquired by Perk.com, the Texas-based developer of a mobile rewards platform. Under the deal, Perk will pay $1.5 million at closing, and an additional $800,000 over the next year. Corona's SDK allows developers to create cross-platform apps, games and eBooks for iOS, Android, Kindle Fire and NOOK. Apps created with Corona have been downloaded more than 60 million times within the past year. "We can now integrate our rewards model and monetization solution into the Corona platform to make it part of the infrastructure from day one of a new app launch," said Ted Hastings, the CEO of Perk. Corona currently has 12 employees in Palo Alto.

o Santa Clara-Based eASIC Withdraws Plans for $75 Million IPO

Santa Clara, Calif. -- Nine months after filing for an initial public offering (IPO), Santa Clara-based eASIC, a developer of application-specific integrated circuits, has now withdrawn those plans. No specific reason was cited in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). eASIC in February filed to raise up to $75 million in its IPO, and planned to list its shares on the NASDAQ Global Market under the symbol "EASI." Through the end of 2014, the company had designed more than 200 custom integrated circuits and shipped over 19 million units. eASIC has raised nearly $140 million since its inception, led by Khosla Ventures, Crescendo Ventures and Seagate.

o San Jose-Based Fenox VC Invests in Social Robot Startup Jibo

San Jose, Calif. -- Fenox Venture Capital, a San Jose-based technology venture capital firm, said it has invested an unspecified amount in Boston-based Jibo, developer of a social robot for the home. The company, founded by MIT Media Labs professor Cynthia Breazeal, previously had raised $3.7 million in an Indiegogo campaign. Jibo said it will use the latest investment to expand the global reach of its robot, which is designed to provide home users with fun, help and companionship. The product is expected to be released in 2016. Through Fenox, the company has partnered with Sega Sammy Holdings and CAC Holdings, who will help expand its sales and marketing to key international regions. Jibo's 11-inch tall robot connects to a home's Wi-Fi network, and is designed to sense its surroundings and respond appropriately, as well as learn as a user engages with it.

o Cyber Monday Expected to Surpass $3 Billion in Online Sales

Reston, Va. -- Cyber Monday is expected to surpass $3 billion in online sales, making it the heaviest online spending day in history for the sixth straight year, according to a new report from comScore. The day is just part of a holiday season in which online retail spending is expected to climb 14% from a year ago. "While the holiday season opened a little softer than anticipated, Thanksgiving and Black Friday both posted strong online spending totals that surpassed $1 billion on desktop computers and grew at the rate we had expected," said Gian Fulgoni, comScore's executive chairman emeritus. "This is also the second straight year that Thanksgiving has established itself as one of the more important online buying days, while Black Friday continues to gain in importance online with each passing year." Importantly, Fulgoni said that the calendar will work in favor of retailers this year, with one extra shopping day between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
