o Menlo Park-Based RedLock Launches After Raising $12 Million in Funding

Menlo Park, Calif. -- RedLock, the Menlo Park-based developer of a cloud infrastructure security platform, said it has officially launched out of stealth after raising $12 million in funding. Sierra Ventures, Storm Ventures, Dell Technologies Capital and others took part in the round. RedLock's Cloud 360 platform is designed to help clients manage security and compliance risks across their public cloud infrastructure, without impeding DevOps. The platform automatically discovers workloads within an environment and enables continuous monitoring, anomaly detection, cloud forensics, adaptive response and compliance reporting. The company said its technology varies greatly from traditional security tools, which often are geared towards largely static on-premise environments rather than cloud environments. RedLock was a finalist for "Most Innovative Startup" at RSA 2017 in San Francisco.

Trump Signs Executive Order Aimed at Improving Federal Cybersecurity

Washington, DC -- Following a series of well-documented hacks against the federal government, President Trump on Thursday signed an executive order aimed at improving the cybersecurity of federal networks and critical infrastructure. Under the order, the heads of each federal agency will become responsible for managing cybersecurity risk, utilizing a framework developed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology. "The trend is going in the wrong direction in cyberspace, and it's time to stop that trend and reverse it on behalf of the American people," said Tom Bossert, the White House's homeland security adviser. "We have seen increasing attacks from allies, adversaries, primarily nation-states, but also non-nation-state actors, and sitting by and doing nothing is no longer an option." The complete executive order is at the link below.

o Study: Better Benefits Would Help Government Attract Cybersecurity Talent

Washington, DC -- Federal agencies need to invest heavily in their benefits strategy to successfully compete for cybersecurity talent, according to a new study by (ISC)2, Booz Allen Hamilton and Alta Associates. The study, one of the largest of the information security profession ever conducted, included responses from more than 19,600 information security professionals. Respondents said that several initiatives could help attract and retain top talent, including offering training programs, paying for professional cybersecurity certifications, boosting compensation and providing more flexible and remote work schedules. The study also suggested that the government must recruit more heavily from untapped talent pools, focusing on women, minorities, veterans and older workers. "It's crystal clear that the government must enhance its benefits offering to attract future hires and retain existing personnel given its fierce competition with the private sector for skilled workers and the unprecedented demand," said Dan Waddell, (ISC)2's managing director of North America. "Unfortunately, the layers of complexity involved in fulfilling that goal are significant." The complete study is available at the link below.
