o San Jose-Based Pixelworks to Cut 15% of Total Workforce

San Jose, Calif. -- Six weeks after completing its acquisition of ViXS Systems, San Jose-based Pixelworks, a developer of visual display processing tools, said on Friday it plans to cut about 15% of its total workforce. Cuts will be focused on the areas of development, operations, sales and administration, saving the company approximately $4 million a year in compensation expenses. "Today's announced actions appropriately align Pixelworks' operating expenses and strategic initiatives, as we aggressively pursue our near- to intermediate-term growth and profitability objectives," said Todd Debonis, Pixelworks' president and CEO. The integration process is expected to be completed by year-end, which we believe will result in further cost benefits."

o San Francisco-Based Carrot Fertility Lands $3.6 Million in Seed Funding

San Francisco -- Carrot Fertility, a San Francisco-based startup that aims to make it easier and more affordable for companies to offer egg freezing and in-vitro fertilization as a workplace benefit, said it has raised $3.6 million in a new seed round, led by SoftTech Ventures. Maven Ventures, Precursor Ventures, Sound Ventures, Sherpa Ventures, Core VC, Founders Fund, Y Combinator and angel investors also participated. "Modern companies know that fertility care is a core part of health programs at work," said Tammy Sun, the company's co-founder and CEO. "The old way of offering IVF benefits only for infertility treatment no longer fits the diverse ways people proactively manage fertility health through basic check-ups, egg freezing, IVF for LGBTQ family-building and more." Employees who want Carrot at work sign-up on the company's website, then receive instructions and support for how to bring the product into their companies. Human resources leaders are able to carve-out, customize and self-fund fertility care for their employees through a direct reimbursement model. Employees then use Carrot to text, video and voice chat with fertility experts, access personalized recommendations and order medication.
