o Redwood City-Based Ivalua Acquires Directworks

Redwood City, Calif. -- Ivalua, a developer of cloud spend management tools with dual headquarters in Redwood City and Paris, said on Friday it has acquired Pennsylvania-based Directworks, creator of a cloud-based platform focused on the manufacturing industry. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Ivalua said the acquisition will help engineered product manufacturers to work more collaboratively across teams and with suppliers. "Our acquisition of Directworks reflects our continued commitment to ensuring the Ivalua platform provides deep capabilities to manage all company spend categories and processes," said David Khuat-Duy, the company's corporate CEO. o Redwood City-Based Equinix Opens New $98.5 Million Data Center

Redwood City, Calif. -- Equinix, the Redwood City-based data center company, on Thursday officially opened its new $98.5 million data center facility in Northern Virginia. The first phase of the facility, called DC12, adds 1,500 cabinets and more than 57,800 gross square feet of data center space. When fully completed, it will be able to house approximately 3,000 cabinets. Equinix now operates 14 data centers in the Washington, DC area, and has so far invested nearly $1 billion to build and expand its presence in Northern Virginia, which is the world's largest concentration of data centers. The company already has purchased four additional parcels of land spanning 34.5 acres for future expansion as needed. "The Equinix Ashburn campus features one of the highest densities of networks and cloud providers within our global platform of IBX data centers," said Karl Strohmeyer, the company's president of Americas. "Interconnection opportunities for enterprises and government agencies across the Washington, DC metro are immense and will enable customers to accelerate their digital transformation."

o San Francisco-Based Allegis Capital Changes Name to AllegisCyber

San Francisco -- Allegis Capital, an early-stage cybersecurity venture capital firm based in San Francisco, said it has changed its name to AllegisCyber to better reflect its focus on cybersecurity, and named David DeWalt as one of its four managing directors. DeWalt, the former CEO of FireEye and McAfee, previously served as a venture partner at the firm. In addition to its leadership role at Allegis, he will become a board advisor at DataTribe, a Maryland-based cyber startup studio that co-founds seed-stage startups to fill critical gaps in cyber security, data and analytics. DataTribe and Allegis currently partner to bring startups from seed stage through an IPO or exit. Allegis founder Bob Ackerman co-founded DataTribe in mid-2016. The firm also plans to share office space with DataTribe in a bid to ramp up its cyber investments on the East Coast, principally in Maryland.

o Survey: Millennials' Interest in Cybersecurity Jobs Remains Stagnant

Dulles, Va. -- Despite an increased push to develop cybersecurity talent, millennials remain largely uninterested in pursuing careers in the field, according to a new survey by Raytheon Intelligence, Information and Services; Forcepoint and the National Cyber Security Alliance. Globally, only 38% said they were more willing to consider a career in cybersecurity than a year ago, unchanged from last year. That's despite the fact that the dominant share (43%) of respondents believe the final outcome of the 2016 U.S. presidential election was influenced by cyber attacks. "The demand for skilled cyber talent has become a national security issue," said Dave Wajsgras, president of Raytheon's Intelligence, Information and Services business. "While great strides have been made to increase millennial awareness in the cybersecurity profession, there is still work to be done." An estimated 1.8 million cybersecurity jobs are expected to go unfilled over the next five years. The survey also revealed an alarming trend of careless behavior online. Globally, 63% said they click on links even if they aren't sure the source of the link is legitimate, and the proportion of U.S. young adults who share passwords with non-family members nearly doubled to 39%. In addition, 74% in the U.S. reported using unsecured public Wi-Fi despite the well-documented security risks, up from 66% in 2013. The complete report is available at the link below.
