The deal, first announced in August, would give Google the hardware to go along with its popular Android smartphone operating system. In its ruling, the antitrust body said the acquisition "would not significantly modify the market situation in respect of operating systems and patents for these devices." U.S. regulators now are expected to follow suit. "This is an important milestone in the approval process and it moves us closer to closing the deal," wrote Don Harrison, Google's vice president and deputy general counsel in a blog post. Participants included new investor IQE and previous backers New Enterprise Associates (NEA), Advanced Technology Ventures (ATV) and Draper Fisher Jurvetson. IQE, which is investing $5 million, will receive an exclusive multi-year wafer supply contract with the company as part of the deal. Financial terms of the deal, first announced in October, were not disclosed. Shoden develops products and technologies designed to optimize data center environments for major banking, telecom and retail clients in South Africa.
