o Reports: Apple to Unveil iPad 3 Next Week in San Francisco

Cupertino, Calif. -- Shares of Cupertino-based Apple hit an all-time high on Tuesday after the company announced plans for a media event next week, presumably to unveil the third generation of its popular iPad tablet computer. The event is scheduled for March 7 at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco. Though rumors of the unveil have persisted for weeks, CNBC drove the buzz into a frenzy early Tuesday when it tweeted: "Quad-Core iPad 3 with 4G LTE to be unveiled in New York next week." A New York unveil would've be a major shift for Apple, which previously has introduced the bulk of its major products either in San Francisco or at its headquarters in Cupertino. The news sent shares of Apple up nearly 2% to $535.41.

Sunnyvale, Calif. -- Rambus, the Sunnyvale-based developer of computer memory technology, said it has launched a search to replace CEO Harold Hughes, who plans to retire once a successor is found. Hughes, 66, a former longtime executive at Intel, has been CEO since 2005 and served on the company's board of directors since 2003. The company said he will be nominated for another term at its annual meeting in April. "Rambus is on a strong path as a result of our diversification strategy and recent license agreements with key semiconductor companies," said Hughes. "Given this, I have decided it is time to start the process of identifying my successor and help the company move into the next phase."

o Sanjiv Ahuja Resigns as CEO of LightSquared Following FCC Rejection

Reston, Va. -- Two weeks after having its plans for a nationwide mobile broadband network rejected by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), Virginia-based LightSquared said on Tuesday that Sanjiv Ahuja has resigned his position as CEO. He will continue to serve as chairman of the board. Doug Smith, currently LightSquared's chief network officer, and Marc Montagner, currently CFO, have been named as interim co-COOs while the company looks for a new CEO. The company spent nearly $4 billion on its nationwide mobile project, which initially had been approved by the FCC in 2005 and amended in 2010. But plans changed earlier this month when the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) released a report that found the company's technology would harm GPS signals.
