Emeryville, Calif. -- Exponential Interactive, the Emeryville-based developer of an advertising intelligence and digital media platform for brands advertisers, has filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to raise up to $75 million in its initial public offering (IPO). The company has yet to reveal details of the offering, such as the number of shares to be sold or their expected price range. It plans to list shares under the symbol "EXPN" on an exchanged to be determined. Exponential's eX Advertising Intelligence Platform is designed to process massive amounts of anonymous consumer data to provide information used by brand advertisers to more effectively reach their customers. The company has a presence in more than 25 countries.

o Palo Alto-Based ClearStory Data Launches After Raising Funds

Palo Alto, Calif. -- ClearStory Data, a Palo Alto-based developer of tools that allow business users to combine large amounts of publicly available data on the web with corporate data, said on Monday it has launched operations with funding from Google Ventures, Andreessen Horowitz, Khosla Ventures and several individual investors. Financial terms of the investments were not disclosed. Company founder Sharmila Shahani-Mulligan, who serves CEO, said her company is "ushering in the era of 'self-driven big data exploration' by making it easier for the masses … to connect, explore and glean intuitive insights from data derived from multiple sources." Shahani-Mulligan previously served as the CMO of Aster Data Systems and Opsware.

o San Mateo-Based Stormpath Raisers $1.5 Million in Seed Funding

San Mateo, Calif. -- Stormpath, a San Mateo-based startup developing an identity access control service for cloud and enterprise applications, said on Monday it has raised $1.5 million in a seed round, co-led by New Enterprise Associates (NEA) and Flybridge Capital Partners. Angel investor Andy Rachleff, the CEO of Wealthfront and co-founder of Benchmark Capital, also participated. Stormpath was founded by Les Hazlewood, a former senior architectural executive at Bloomberg and Delta Airlines, and Alex Salazar, who previously led sales teams at IBM. The company is building a console and APIs that manage user security both in the cloud and behind a firewall. "The goal of Stormpath is to free up developers’ time so they can focus on what really matters to their product and business," said Hazlewood, who serves as CTO.

o Cupertino-Based Apple to Initiate Dividend, Share Repurchase Programs

Cupertino, Calif. -- With its stock already hovering around an all-time high, shares of Apple on Monday got a further boost when the Cupertino-based company announced plans to initiate a quarterly dividend and repurchase $10 billion in stock. Apple, which on Friday officially released its third-generation iPad, said it will pay a dividend of $2.65 a share sometime in the quarter that begins July 1. The buyback program will launch in the company's next fiscal year, which begins Sept. 30, and is expected to last three years. "We anticipate utilizing approximately $45 billion of domestic cash in the first three years of our programs," said CFO Peter Oppenheimer. "We are extremely confident in our future and see tremendous opportunities ahead."

o Cupertino-Based Apple Sells 3 Million iPads in First Weekend

Cupertino, Calif. -- Three days after releasing its third-generation iPad, Cupertino-based Apple said on Monday it already has sold 3 million of the tablet computers. Philip Schiller, the company's senior vice president of worldwide marketing, called the first weekend numbers "the strongest iPad launch yet." The new iPad currently is available in the U.S., Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore, Switzerland, the U.K. and the U.S. Virgin Islands and will be available in 24 more countries starting on Friday.
