San Francisco -- Leap Motion, a San Francisco-based motion-control software company, announced that it has raised $12.75 million in its first round of funding. The round was led by Highland Capital Partners with participation from existing investors. Leap Motion has been operating in stealth mode as OcuSpec since 2010. Leap Motion develops motion-control software and hardware. It was founded in 2010 by Michael Buckwald and David Holz.

o Pleasanton-Based Polycom to Sell Wireless Voice Unit for $110 Million

Pleasanton, Calif. -- Polycom, a Pleasanton-based telecommunications service provider, announced on Friday it will sell its wireless voice services business to Sun Capital Partners for about $110 million in cash. The business unit being sold includes Wi-Fi and DECT handsets, related infrastructure and accessories. It generated revenues of about $94 million in calendar year 2011. Polycom said the strategic decision to divest the unit reflects its focus on initiatives that extend its unified communications business, including video collaboration services delivered through traditional as well as new platforms using mobile, social and cloud.

o Yelp Sings Eight-Year Lease on HQ Space in San Francisco

San Francisco -- Yelp, the operator of the social networking, user review, and local search web site, has signed an eight-year lease for its new headquarters, which will be located at 140 New Montgomery Street, in an iconic Art Deco office building adjacent to the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Yelp has signed a lease for nearly 100,000 square feet and expects to move into the building in the fall of 2013. The company was founded in 2004 and went public two months ago. Yelp currently reports more than 61 million monthly unique visitors.

o Geeknet Exploring Strategic Options, Including Possible Sale

Mountain View, Calif. -- Geeknet, the network of technology-related websites including the popular Slashdot community formerly based in Mountain View, announced on Friday that it is exploring strategic alternatives for its media business. The strategic evaluation will include the SourceForge, Slashdot and Freecode websites. Geeknet's board of directors said it would look at a range of options, including a potential sale of the company's media business, investing additional capital into the sites or other transactions. In a statement, Geeknet said its goal is to maximize shareholder value. The company has retained DeSilva+Phillips Corporate Finance as its financial advisor to assist with the strategic review. "With more than 46 million total unique visitors last month, our media properties have a large community of engaged users and we are committed to creating the best online experience for them," said Kenneth Langone, chairman and CEO of Geeknet.
