o Report: U.S. Households Saved $8,900 Last Year Thanks to Internet

Washington, DC -- U.S. broadband households saved an average of $8,900 last year by taking advantage of Internet-only deals and other offers such as free shipping, according to a new report from the Internet Innovation Alliance (IIA) based on statistics from the Department of Labor. That's an increase of about $1,200 per household from the previous year. The organization said consumers have benefitted from online price comparisons, access to deeper inventory, web-only coupons and discounts and savings on gasoline. "These money-saving tactics are critical in a challenging economy and are contingent upon access to high-speed broadband," said Bruce Mehlman, founding co-chairman of the IIA.
