o Paul Otellini to Step Down as CEO of Chip-Maker Intel

Santa Clara, Calif. -- Paul Otellini will step down at the CEO of Santa Clara-based chip-maker Intel in May, the company announced on Monday. Otellini has been with the company for 40 yards, serving as its CEO since 2005. "After almost four decades with the company and eight years as CEO, it’s time to move on and transfer Intel's helm to a new generation of leadership," said Otellini. The company's board said it will begin the process of finding his replacement, considering both internal and external candidates. In addition, Intel also has promoted three senior leaders to executive vice president -- Renee James, head of Intel’s software business; Brian Krzanich, COO and head of worldwide manufacturing; and Stacy Smith, CFO and director of corporate strategy.

Sunnyvale, Calif. -- Intertrust Technologies, a Sunnyvale-based developer of digital rights management software, said on Monday it has invested in Indian startup Kiora, a developer of video rental kiosks for low bandwidth regions. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Kiora's service uses an Internet kiosk for retail outlets or community centers where consumers can fill conventional USB sticks with movies and TV shows. The content can then be downloaded at home for playback on set top boxes that will retail for under $20. "Kiora has great potential to transform video distribution in places like India and China by solving the last mile problem in a very unique way," said Talal Shamoon, the CEO of Intertrust.

o San Jose-Based Modria Launches Online Dispute Resolution Platform

San Jose, Calif. -- Modria, a San Jose-based technology startup that recently raised $1.2 million in seed funding, said on Monday it has launched an online dispute resolution platform, designed to help customer support and legal departments resolve customer complaints. The company, backed by Kapor Capital and others, is led by founder and CEO Colin Rule, who previously served as the director of online dispute resolution at eBay and PayPal. Modria’s Fairness Engine collects and organizes relevant information about the issue and suggests possible solutions. It then distills points of contention and enables the parties to discuss the matter directly and on the record. "Complaints and disputes are a fact of life in the networked economy," said Rule. o Report: U.S. IT Employment Resumes Positive Growth in October

Alexandria, Va. -- The number of IT jobs in the U.S. grew slightly in October following a small decrease in September, according to new figures from the TechServe Alliance, a collaboration of IT services firms, clients, consultants and suppliers. The organization said the country added 900 IT jobs during the month to reach 4.19 million. Except for the modest dip in September, IT employment has grown every month this year and is up 2.8% on a year-over-year basis. "While demand in most IT skill sets remains strong, it appears that uncertainty surrounding the broader macroeconomic picture and fiscal cliff has dampened the robust growth we saw earlier in the year," said Mark Roberts, the CEO of TechServe.
