o San Jose-Based Cisco to Acquire Meraki for $1.2 Billion

San Jose, Calif. -- Cisco, the San Jose-based maker of networking gear, said it will pay approximately $1.2 billion to acquire San Francisco-based cloud networking firm Meraki. The deal, expected to close in Cisco's second fiscal quarter, includes cash and retention-based incentives. Meraki offers Wi-Fi, switching, security and mobile device management centrally managed from the cloud. "The acquisition of Meraki enables Cisco to make simple, secure, cloud managed networks available to our global customer base of mid-sized businesses and enterprises," said Rob Soderbery, the senior vice president of Cisco's Enterprise Networking Group.
