Iberdrola and GE Ventures joined previous backer Angeleno Group in the round, which the company will use to expand into new sectors and geographical markets. Founded in 2009, Stem is the developer of a data analytics and intelligent energy storage system that the company said lets businesses reduce their electricity expenses without changing day-to-day operations. The system features an autonomous decision engine that alternates between battery power and grid power to optimize energy costs. http://www.stem.com/ http://ca.finance.yahoo.com/news/stem-closes-15-million-series-140000736.html _____________________________________________ o Online Sales Rise Double Digits on Black Friday, Thanksgiving Reston, Va. -- Americans spent $1.2 billion online on Black Friday, a 16% increase over the same day in 2012, according to new figures from comScore. It marked the first billion-dollar shopping day of the online holiday season. Online sales on Thanksgiving, traditionally a lighter day for online spending, also grew 21% to $766 million. "Both days continue to grow in importance on the online channel," said Gian Fulgoni, the chairman of comScore. "Clearly many consumers prefer to avoid the crowds and lines typically associated with Black Friday by shopping from the comfort of their own homes, and we saw a record 66 million Americans do that this year. Also interesting is that the recent trend of kick-starting holiday shopping by opening stores on Thanksgiving Day seems to be having a spillover effect on the online channel." The most visited retailer sites on Black Friday included Amazon, eBay, Walmart, Best Buy and Target. http://www.comscore.com/Insights/Press_Releases/2013/12/Black_Friday_Billions_12_Billion _in_Desktop_ECommerce_Spending_Marks_First_BillionDollar_Online_Shopping_Day_of_the _2013_Holiday_Season _____________________________________________ o Daly City-Based Genesys Acquires Voran Tecnologia Daly City, Calif. -- Genesys, a Daly City-based developer of customer experience and contact center software, said on Monday it has acquired Voran Tecnologia, a provider of workforce optimization as a service in Brazil. In an interview on CBS news program "60 Minutes," Bezos said the drones -- called octocoptors -- could be delivering packages weighing up to five pounds to customers within 10 miles of the company's 96 U.S. fulfillment centers by 2018. The plan would require approval from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). "I know this looks like science fiction. It's not," said Bezos. "The hard part here is putting in all the redundancy, all the reliability, all the systems you need to say `Look, this thing can't land on somebody's head while they're walking around their neighborhood'… It will work and it will happen, and it's going to be a lot of fun." http://www.cbsnews.com/news/amazons-jeff-bezos-looks-to-the-future/ _____________________________________________ o Briefly Noted: (Fremont, Calif.)
