Palo Alto, Calif. -- Flipboard, the Palo Alto-based developer of social news app, is raising another $50 million in funding, just two months after it secured $50 million at a reported $800 million valuation, Fortune reported. Rizvi Traverse Management, which led the initial tranche, also reportedly will lead the latest tranche, which when finalized will raise the 3-year-old company's total backing to $160 million. Flipboard offers a digital magazine service that aggregates web links from a user's social circle, such as Twitter and Facebook, and displays the content in magazine form on an iPad.

o Mountain View-Based 23andMe Ordered to Halt Sale of DNA Tests

Mountain View, Calif. -- The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has ordered Mountain View-based 23andMe, a DNA analysis startup co-founded by Anne Wojcicki, the wife of Google co-founder Sergey Brin, to immediately halt sales of its saliva DNA test kits. The FDA said the company has been marketing the tests without clearance or approval, in violation of the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act. "Some of the uses for which PGS [Personal Genome Service] is intended are particularly concerning… because of the potential health consequences that could result from false positive or false negative assessments for high-risk indications such as these," the agency wrote in its letter. Wojcicki has been given 15 working days to submit correct actions to the FDA.
