o San Francisco-Based Radius Lands $13 Million in New Funding

San Francisco -- Radius, a San Francisco-based developer of sales and marketing intelligence technology targeting B2B marketers, said on Thursday it has raised $13 million in a new round of funding, led by Formation8 Partners. Previous backers BlueRun Ventures and CEO Darian Shirazi also participated. Joe Lonsdale, founding partner of Formation8, will join the company's board of directors. Radius said it will use the funds to expand its data and technology team, bolster the number of sources it currently indexes and build out its sales organization.

o Cupertino-Based Altia Systems Raises $10.7 Million in Funding

Cupertino, Calif. -- Altia Systems, a Cupertino-based developer of video and web collaboration technology, has raised $10.7 million in a new round of funding the company disclosed Thursday in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Twenty-seven investors took part in the round, which the company eventually hopes to cap at $13.8 million. The news comes three months after the company revealed a new investment from Naya Ventures. Altia Systems is the developer of PanaCast, an immersive video collaboration system with a 200-degree field of view, which the company says replicates the human panoramic perspective. The product works on PCs, tablets and smart phones.

o San Francisco-Based Nexant Acquires Freeman, Sullivan & Company

San Francisco -- Nexant, a San Francisco-based provider of energy software and services, said on Thursday it has acquired the San Francisco-based energy consultancy Freeman, Sullivan & Company (FSC). Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. FSC founder and Chairman Michael Sullivan and CEO Stephen George will join Nexant as part of the agreement. FSC focuses on integrating demand response into utility smart grid initiatives. "Having them on board not only adds deep and highly valued domain experience in demand response planning and behavioral sciences, it also significantly strengthens Nexant's software solutions… that enable utilities to manage all of their demand side management programs on a single platform," said Nexant CEO Basem Sarandah.

o New Enterprise Associates Names Elliott Sigal as Venture Partner

Menlo Park, Calif. -- New Enterprise Associates (NEA), the venture capital firm with West Coast offices in Menlo Park, on Thursday named Elliott Sigal as a venture partner and senior advisor. Sigal is a former executive vice president and director for Bristol-Myers Squibb, serving as the company's chief scientific officer and president of R&D from 2004-2013. "Dr. Sigal is among the most accomplished, respected and forward-thinking executives in the pharmaceutical industry," said David Mott, NEA general partner and head of the firm's Healthcare practice. o Washington Post Tops List of Most Popular Newspaper Sites on Twitter

New York -- The Washington Post boasts the nation's most popular newspaper website based on its prominence on social network Twitter, according to a new study by Searchmetrics. Content from USA Today and The Washington Post also dominated a list of the top 10 most tweeted newspaper website stories in 2013. In the study, Searchmetrics analyzed the number of weekly tweets generated by content on 10 popular U.S. newspaper web sites. The Washington Post drove an average 275,193 tweets a week, followed by The New York Times (261,422) and USA Today (149,960). A USA Today article, tweeted 408,816 times, was the most tweeted story of the year. The news piece, which includes a video report, discusses the shooting of the Texas gunman thought to be tied to the shootings of a Colorado prisons chief and a pizza delivery driver.
