Elliott on Tuesday said it would pay $21 a share, or $3.36 billion, for the company, which had previously rejected its offer of $19 a share. In a statement, however, Riverbed said its board "believes the proposal undervalues the company and is not in the best interests of shareholders." Elliott, which already controls 10.5% of the company's stock, said this week that it could potentially raise its offer once again, but only if given full access to the company's books. http://www.riverbed.com http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20140228005121/en/Riverbed-Board-Directors-Rejects-Unsolicited-Proposal-Elliott#.UxDA--NdXng _____________________________________________ o SVForum Moves to San Jose, Names Adiba Barney as New CEO San Jose, Calif. -- SVForum, a nonprofit focused on innovation and entrepreneurship in Silicon Valley, on Friday announced new offices and leadership. The organization said it has moved to San Jose's SVG Innovation Center, and appointed Adiba Barney as its new CEO. Barney, formerly of the Silicon Vikings, succeeds interim CEO Susan Lucas-Conwell. Lucas-Conwell will continue to serve on SVForum's board of directors. The organization also has named Steve Goldberg of Venrock, Jeff Kuhn of FLG Partners and Kevin Surace of Appvance to its board, replacing longtime board members Ann Winblad of Hummer Winblad, Peter Sonsini of NEA and Jim Koshland of DLA Piper, who have resigned. "My main focus now is to rejuvenate the organization, its brand and its offering to the Silicon Valley community," said Barney. http://www.svforum.org http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20140228005785/en/Big-SVForum-CEO-Office-Board-Members#.UxDfmONdXng _____________________________________________ o Santa Clara-Based Aeria Games to Sell PC Games Business Santa Clara, Calif. -- Aeria Games & Entertainment, a Santa Clara-based developer and publisher of mobile games, said it will sell its worldwide PC games business, including its European subsidiary, to European game publisher ProSiebenSat.1 Games. Financial terms of the deal, which also includes certain mobile games licenses, were not disclosed. Aeria Games, together with its group companies in Asia, will now focus exclusively on its mobile games development and publishing business. The company's contribution will come in the form of software and professional development services, bringing private sector donation over the $1 billion mark. Earlier this month, Autodesk also pledged $250 million in software and services; Apple $100 million in iPads, MacBooks and other products; AT&T $100 million in mobile broadband services; and Verizon $100 million in cash and in-kind commitments. In the U.S., Facebook, Twitter and Google+ were the top three social networks, while the most shared pieces of content were the humorous video "Star Wars Meets the Winter Olympics," from The Nerdist.com, and an article from the Godvine website featuring a Russian cross-country skier with a broken ski getting helped by a Canadian coach. The content formats most often shared, in order, were text-based news stories with images, followed by images alone and then videos. "What’s striking about the data is that Facebook is not the leading way to engage with content in every country"” said Scott Allan, the CMO of AddThis. "Also, you don’t have to be a household name as a publisher to find a massive audience for an event like the Winter Olympics. It's about great content that connects on a very human level." http://www.nerdist.com/2014/02/if-sochi-was-hoth-star-wars-meets-the-winter-olympics/ (Star Wars Meets the Winter Olympics) http://www.godvine.com/read/breaks-skis-455.html (Godvine article) http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20140228005104/en/AddThis-Reports-Humor-Human-Interest-Stories-Politics#.UxDSdONdXng _____________________________________________ o Briefly Noted: (San Francisco) San Francisco-based venture capital firm True Ventures said it has taken part in a new $1.6 million round of funding for Boston-based Smarterer, a developer of online job search and recruitment services.
