o Twitter Shares Slump on Slowing Subscriber Growth, Weaker Outlook

San Francisco -- Shares of Twitter fell 24% on Thursday after the San Francisco-based social media giant reported slowing subscriber growth and a weaker financial outlook. The company reported an average of 241 million monthly users during the fourth quarter, up just 3.8% from the prior quarter. It marked the lowest rate of quarterly growth since the company began disclosing user figures, according to Reuters. And despite more than doubling its revenue to $242.7 million during the quarter, Twitter predicted first-quarter revenue of just $230-$240 million. The company said it is working to make it easier for new users to sign up for the service and for existing ones to more efficiently find information. "We simply need to make Twitter a better Twitter," CEO Dick Costolo told investors during a conference call.

o San Rafael-Based Autodesk Completes $286M Acquisition of Delcam

San Rafael, Calif. -- Autodesk, the San Rafael-based developer of 3D design, engineering and entertainment software, said on Thursday it has completed its $286 million acquisition of U.K.-based Delcam, a supplier of computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) software. The companies first announced plans for the deal in November. Delcam will operate as an independently operated subsidiary of Autodesk, with no significant changes to its business. "The acquisition of Delcam is an important step in Autodesk's continued expansion into manufacturing and fabrication and beyond our roots in design," said Buzz Kross, Autodesk's senior vice president for design, lifecycle and simulation products.

San Mateo, Calif. -- JangoMail, the San Mateo-based developer of a broadcast email service, said on Wednesday it has opened a new office in Washington, DC, which will serve as the central hub for business development on the East Coast. The company has named Mark Mentzer to lead the office as regional sales manager. JangoMail offers services for transactional and marketing emails that are currently used by more than 200,000 clients. The news office continues a growth spurt for JangoMail, which announced last summer that it was doubling the size of its staff.

o Survey: Web Surfing, Socializing Are Biggest Time-Wasters at Work

Menlo Park, Calif. -- Employees surfing the Internet and socializing are the two biggest time-wasters at work, according to a new survey of CFOs by Menlo Park's Robert Half Management Resources. Nearly one-third of executives interviewed cited Internet use, such as visits to social media sites, as the biggest culprit, with banter between co-workers a close second. Approximately one in 10 financial executives polled also said that meetings drain significant time, with the issue most pronounced at firms with more than 1,000 employees. "Chatting with coworkers and attending to personal activities during breaks at the office are acceptable within reason," said Paul McDonald, Robert Half's senior executive director. "But too many distractions can detract from individual and team productivity."

o Study: 1.2 Million Software Developers Publishing APIs for External Use

Santa Cruz, Calif. -- Of the world's approximately 18.2 million software developers, 1.2 million are now publishing APIs (application programming interfaces) for external use, according to a new study by Evans Data. Another 4.7 million publish APIs intended for only partners or registered associates. "The Internet of Things and the proliferation of platforms across all industries have led to an explosion in the number of developers publishing APIs externally," said Janel Garvin, the CEO of Evans Data. "We expect that number to increase proportionately in relation to the population going into the next three years, and not just keep up with projected population growth." Software publishers often release APIs to the public to let other developers design products centered around their service.
