o Mountain View-Based LinkedIn to Acquire San Francisco's Bright

Mountain View, Calif. -- LinkedIn, the Mountain View-based operator of an online professional network, said it will acquire San Francisco-based Bright, developer of an online job search tool designed to match job seekers with potential employers, in a cash and stock deal valued at $120 million. The deal is expected to close later this quarter. "As we add more job listings over the next several years, Bright's powerful matching technology will be integral to ensuring that the prospects we suggest to employers and opportunities we surface for prospects are increasingly relevant," wrote Parker Barrile, the vice president of product for LinkedIn Talent Solutions, in a blog post. Founded in 2011, Bright has raised more than $20 million in funding from Passport Capital, Toba Capital and angel investors. Several of Bright's employees, including those from its engineering and product departments, are expected to join LinkedIn. Bright said that current users will be able to access data on its site through the end of February.

San Francisco -- OpenTable, the San Francisco-based operator of an online restaurant reservations service, said it has acquired Los Altos-based Ness Computing, a provider of mobile personalized restaurant recommendations, for $17.2 million in cash. OpenTable said it plans to integrate the company's technology into its core offering. The Ness app and site will be discontinued, and its 11 employees will join OpenTable's office in San Francisco. "We're looking forward to leveraging the Ness team's expertise to enrich the experience for diners and deepen the relationship between restaurants and their guests," said Joseph Essas, the CTO of OpenTable.

o San Mateo-Based GoPro Confidentially Files for IPO

San Mateo, Calif. -- GoPro, the San Mateo-based maker of wearable and gear-mountable cameras, revealed on Friday it has confidentially filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for an initial public offering (IPO). The company said it plans to launch the offering once the SEC completes its review process. The news comes just days after GoPro hired Jack Lazar as its new CFO. o Shares of Apple Rise After Company Buys Back $14 Billion in Stock

Cupertino, Calif. -- Shares of Apple rose 1.4% on Friday after the Cupertino-based company revealed that it's repurchased $14 billion in company stock over the past two weeks. Tim Cook, Apple's CEO, told The Wall Street Journal the company now has bought back more than $40 billion of its shares in the past year. "It means that we are betting on Apple," Cook told the Journal. "It means that we are really confident on what we are doing and what we plan to do." The latest surge began shortly after the company's recent first-quarter results and second-quarter revenue outlook disappointed investors, who sent its shares plummeting 8% the following day.

o AOL Employs Rebel Against New 401(k) Policy

New York -- Some AOL employees are reacting angrily to a change in their compensation package, with the Internet company deciding to match 401(k) contributions in one lump sum at the end of each year, instead of as employees contribute. In a conference call Thursday, CEO Tim Armstrong blamed the change on rising healthcare costs, citing a $7.1 million bill related to Obamacare and payments of $1 million each to two employees with 'distressed" babies. "Those are the things that add up into our benefits cost," Armstrong said, according to a rough transcript published in the blog re/code. Some employees have drafted a letter to Armstrong, voicing their displeasure with the new policy. "We strongly object to the new 401(k) matching practice and encourage the company to reverse its policy," reads the letter, published by re/code. "Single lump-sum 401(k) contributions are an unnecessarily risky investment strategy and deprive workers who leave the company of retirement benefits they have earned."
