Previous backer Andreessen Horowitz also participated in the round, which increased the company's total funding to $40 million. Greg Raleigh, ItsOn's founder, chairman and CEO, said the proceeds will help "accelerate the market launch for our cloud-based virtual OSS & BSS platform and grow our mobile operator customer revenues in Europe, Asia, Middle East and South America." The platform is designed to simplifies operators' business processes and allow them to more quickly deploy new services at a fraction of the current costs. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Gnip's products are designed to help clients more easily analyze data across public Tweets. "We believe Gnip has only begun to scratch the surface," wrote Jana Messerschmidt, Twitter's vice president of global business development and platform, in a blog post. "Together we plan to offer more sophisticated data sets and better data enrichments." Chris Moody, the CEO of Gnip, said the acquisition will give his company the resources and infrastructure to expand. He succeeds Brendan Eich, who recently stepped down just 10 days after being promoted to the role amid a firestorm of controversy. The initial move sparked an uproar, since Eich had been a supporter of California's Proposition 8, an antigay-marriage ballot measure. Beard, most recently the company's CMO, has been actively involved with Mozilla since before the company shipped Firefox 1.0. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. EBSCO previously had announced plans to discontinue the Matepress platform, which allows scholars to view all of a publishers' collection, including journals, books and reference works. Metapress partners with publishers to put their works online, distributes their metadata to more than 35 aggregators and indexers and manages institutional access and online purchases.
