o WSJ: Sunnyvale-Based Yahoo to Make Push Into Original Programming

Sunnyvale, Calif. -- Following the lead of companies like Netflix and Amazon, Sunnyvale-based Yahoo plans to begin producing original programming, and already is in talks to potentially order four web series, The Wall Street Journal reported. The publications, citing people familiar with the matter, said the company is most interested in 10-episode, half-hour comedies with budgets up to several million dollars per episode. "They're looking at the same type of shows that Netflix and Amazon are eyeing," a person familiar with the situation told The Journal.

o Report: Symantec Hires JP Morgan Chase to Explore Options

Mountain View, Calif. -- Less than three weeks after firing its CEO, Mountain View-based Internet security firm Symantec has hired JP Morgan Chase to help it explore possible business options and defend against activist investors, Bloomberg reported. The news comes after the company recently fired Steve Bennett as its president and CEO amid lagging sales, replacing him on an interim basis with board member Michael Brown. Bennett had led the company since mid-2012. Symantec has suffered of late as sales of personal computers have dropped, reducing demand for its antivirus software.

o Mallinckrodt to Acquire Questcor Pharmaceuticals in $5.6 Billion Deal

Hayward, Calif. -- Irish specialty pharmaceutical firm Mallinckrodt on Monday announced plans to acquire biopharmaceutical firm Questcor Pharmaceuticals, which bases its commercial operations and medical affairs in Hayward, in a cash and stock deal valued at $5.6 billion. Under the deal, expected to close after midyear, Questcor shareholders will receive $30 in cash and 0.9 shares of Mallinckrodt for each of their shares. Mallinckrodt shareholders will own approximately 50.5% of the combined company, with Questcor's commercial operations operating as a separate unit. Anaheim Hills-based Questcor's core product is Acthar, a gel designed to treat autoimmune and inflammatory conditions. "The increased cash flow and scale of operations of a combined Questcor/Mallinckrodt organization will provide an even stronger platform to support the expansion of Acthar into new therapeutic areas," said Don Bailey, the president and CEO of Questcor,
