o San Ramon-Based Five9 Prices IPO Below Range; Shares Rise 9%

San Ramon, Calif. -- Shares of San Ramon-based Five9 rose 9% on their first day of trading Friday, after the developer of cloud contact center software priced its initial public offering (IPO) lower than expected. The company is selling 10 million shares for $7 each, well below its expected range of $9-$11. Its stock, now trading on the NASDAQ Stock Market under the symbol "FIVN," closed Friday at $7.64. The latest news comes about 10 months after Five9 raised $22 million in its fourth round of funding, led by SAP Ventures. Previous backers include Adam Street Partners, Hummer Winblad Venture Partners and Partech International, among others.

o Oakland-Based Sungevity Raises $70 Million in New Funding

Oakland -- Sungevity, an Oakland-based solar energy provider, said on Friday it has raised $70 million in a new round of funding, led by Jetstream Ventures. E.ON and GE Ventures also participated in the round, which the company will use to expand its customer base into new markets. GE made its initial investment in the company in July. Sungevity said its sales doubled last year on the strength of its remote solar design and instant quoting technology. The company also has launched operations in the Netherlands and Australia over the past two years.

o Report: Cupertino-Based Apple Acquires Novauris Technologies

Cupertino, Calif. -- Looking to improve the technology behind Siri, Cupertino-based Apple has acquired U.K.-based Novauris Technologies, TechCrunch reported. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Novauris reportedly has been building its own speech recognition technology. Its founders were key team members at Dragon Systems.

o Burlingame-Based RefleXion Medical Raises $11.6 Million

Burlingame, Calif. -- RefleXion Medical, a Burlingame-based medical device startup developing the first biologically-guided radiation therapy system for cancer treatment, said on Friday it has raised $11.6 million in its first round of funding. Sofinnova Partners led the round, which also included participation from Pfizer Venture Investments (PVI) and Venrock. RefleXion's technology integrates positron emission tomography (PET) with radiation therapy, providing the potential to deliver a higher dose of therapeutic radiation to multiple cancerous lesions while sparing the surrounding healthy tissue.

o San Francisco-Based Dropbox Promotes Sujay Jaswa to CFO

San Francisco -- Gearing up for an expected initial public offering (CFO) in the coming months, San Francisco-based Dropbox, the large cloud storage and sharing company, has promoted Sujay Jaswa to the role of CFO, The Wall Street Journal reported. Jaswa, a former technology investors at New Enterprise Associates (NEA), joined Dropbox in 2010, serving as its vice president in charge of partnerships. The news comes two months after the company raised $350 million at a $10 billion valuation, according to TechCrunch. Dropbox, founded in 2007 as a Y Combinator startup, currently counts more than 200 million users.
