Fidelity Investments led the round, which according to Bloomberg also included participation from Wellington Management, Summit Partners, BlackRock, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and previous backers Google Ventures and Menlo Ventures. The funding, which comes nearly four years after the company originally launched operations, is expected to total $1.4 billion, once Uber completes its second close in the coming days. The company, which lets clients request and pay for car service through their mobile devices, now operates in 128 cities located in 37 countries. "With our growth and expansion, the company has evolved from being a scrappy Silicon Valley tech startup to being a way of life for millions of people in cities around the world," wrote CEO Travis Kalanick in a blog post. "This `Uber' way of life is really a reflection of our mission to turn ground transportation into a seamless service and to enable a transportation alternative in cities that makes car ownership a thing of the past." https://www.uber.com/ http://blog.uber.com/4years http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-06-06/uber-sets-valuation-record-of-17-billion-in-new-funding.html _____________________________________________ o Shares of Santa Clara-Based Arista Networks Spike Following $226M IPO Santa Clara, Calif. -- Shares of Santa Clara-based Arista Networks rose 32% by midday Friday, hours after the maker of network switches for large data centers priced its initial public offering (IPO) higher than expected.
