o Los Altos-Based Elasticsearch Raises $70 Million in Third Round

Los Altos, Calif. -- Elasticsearch, the Los Altos- and Netherlands-based developer of a real-time search and analytics platform, said on Thursday it has raised $70 million in its third round of funding, led by New Enterprise Associates (NEA). Benchmark Capital and Index Ventures also took part in the round, which increases the company's total funding to $104 million over the past year and a half. It plans to use the latest funds to bolster marketing and product development activities, and expand its sales organization. The company claims more than 8 million downloads of its core products -- Elasticsearch, Logstash and Kibana -- counting Comcast, eBay, Facebook, Mayo Clinic, TomTom and Tinder among its clients. Harry Weller, a general partner at NEA, will join the company's board of directors. "It's rare to see a company not only get developers excited by their technology, but also sell successfully into the enterprise, and we see massive opportunities on an even broader scale," said Weller.

o San Francisco-Based Twitter to Acquire Namo Media

San Francisco -- Twitter said it will acquire San Francisco-based startup Namo Media, a creator of tools designed to let developers ad native ads to mobile apps. TechCrunch pegged the value of the deal at around $50 million. The company said the deal builds on last October's acquisition of MoPub. "We believe strongly that all app developers large and small should be able to monetize their applications without sacrificing the user experience," wrote Kevin Weil, Twitter's vice president of product, in a blog post. "In our conversations with the Namo Media team, it became clear we share a vision for how native advertising can improve the state of mobile app monetization for marketers, app publishers and users." Namo counts Google Ventures, Andreessen Horowitz, Betaworks, Trinity Ventures and Susa Ventures among its investors.
