o Steve Case's Revolution Growth Invests $30M in Oakland-Based Revolution Foods

Oakland -- Revolution Growth, the investment firm co-founded by Steve Case, Ted Leonsis and Donn Davis, said on Wednesday it has invested in Oakland-based Revolution Foods, developer of a school meal service and ready-to-eat meal kits. The New York Times pegs the investment at $30 million, citing people familiar with the matter. Case, the co-founder of AOL, will join the company's board. Founded by Kristin Groos Richmond and Kirsten Saenz Tobey, two moms with backgrounds in education, Revolution Foods prepares and delivers more than 1 million fresh meals each week to approximately 1,000 schools nationwide, most in underserved communities. The company last year also launched healthy meal kits in grocery stores. "There are many facets to addressing the healthcare challenges we face in our country -- and one of them is access to healthier food options at home, at work, on the road, and especially in our schools," said Case. Washington, DC-based Revolution's prior investments mostly include companies with ties to tech, including Zipcar, LivingSocial, AddThis, Lolly Wolly Doodle, Bigcommerce and Echo360.

San Francisco -- Gild, the San Francisco-based developer of data analysis software designed to help companies find and evaluate tech talent, said on Wednesday it has raised $13.5 million in its second round of funding, led by Menlo Ventures. Draper Nexus and previous backers Steve Anderson of Baseline Ventures, Globespan Capital Partners, SAP Ventures, Correlation Ventures and original LinkedIn investor Mark Kvamme of Drive Capital also participated. Gild's software is designed to remove bias and drive collaboration across hiring teams, helping them find, screen and select developers. Gild, which now has raised $27 million since its launch in 2012, said it will use the financing to scale its business and bolster its software, now used by more than 250 clients.

o Sunnyvale-Based Cambrios Lands $10M Investment from Samsung Ventures

Sunnyvale, Calif. -- Cambrios Technologies, a Sunnyvale-based developer of transparent conductors used to make consumer electronics displays, said it has landed a new $10 million investment from Samsung Venture Investment Corp. (SVIC). The company had previously received $5 million from SVIC in 2011. Cambrios' ClearOhm coating material is made from highly conductive silver nanowires, which the company said offer significantly higher optical and electrical performance than previous generation transparent conductive materials. The material is used in products such as touch screens, LCDs and thin film photovoltaics. "SVIC's second investment in Cambrios confirms the importance of our technology and our specific materials for the display industry," said John LeMoncheck, the president and CEO of Cambrios Technologies.

o San Mateo-Based GoPro Names Tony Bates as President

San Mateo, Calif. -- GoPro, the San Mateo-based maker of wearable and gear-mountable cameras that recently filed for an initial public offering (IPO), on Wednesday named Tony Bates as its new president. Bates most recently served as an executive vice president at Microsoft, responsible for business development, strategy and evangelism. He joined Microsoft in 2011 with the acquisition of Skype, where he had served as CEO since 2010. Bates and Peter Gotcher, an independent venture investor and chairman of Dolby Laboratories, also have been named to the company's board of directors. "I'm fired up to have two seasoned technology veterans like Tony and Peter join our team," said founder and CEO Nicholas Woodman. "Tony will focus on our core business as well as scaling GoPro's fast-growing media operations." GoPro in February revealed that it had confidentially filed for an IPO, which it plans to launch once the SEC completes its review process.

o Survey Identifies Top Priorities, Challenges for Government IT Officials

Washington, DC -- The top three priorities for federal information technology officials are IT security, modernization and mobility, according to a new survey from TechAmerica, the government and public policy division of CompTIA. The 24th Annual Federal CIO Survey, which the organization completed in collaboration with Grant Thornton, also found several challenges for IT officials, including workforce, security and budget cost savings. "Our latest report highlights how federal officials are adopting new technologies to empower their workforces, but in the face of enormous headwinds," said Srikant Sastry, managing principal of Grant Thornton's Global Public Sector. "Despite obstacles like sequestration and shutdown, as well as an ever evolving security threat, CIOs and CISOs are driving innovation in the cloud and mobile devices, in developing collaboration environments, and in security."
