Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. NetSuite said the acquisition will expand its services into the European market. "The first step to building the right organization for our ambitions is to realign our workforce," wrote CEO Satya Nadella in a note to employees. "With this in mind, we will begin to reduce the size of our overall workforce by up to 18,000 jobs in the next year." Of that figure, Nadella said about 12,500 cuts will come from "synergies and strategic alignment on Nokia Devices and Services," a 25,000-employee division the company recently acquired. Most affected employees are expected to receive notice in the next six months. They will receive severance packages and job transition help. "It is particularly important to recognize that the role of phones within Microsoft is different than it was within Nokia," wrote Stephen Elop, the former CEO of Nokia and current head of the affected division. "Our device strategy must reflect Microsoft's strategy and must be accomplished within an appropriate financial envelope.
