Previous backers Columbia Capital, Telcom Ventures and Goldman Sachs Investment Partners also participated in the round, which the company will use to extend the commercialization of its Metropolitan Beacon System (MBS) positioning network. MBS provides horizontal and vertical location services inside buildings and in urban areas where satellite-based GPS signals aren't available or reliable. The company is deploying the network much like a cellular network, delivering wide-area coverage to every building within its network footprint. NextNav CEO Gary Parsons, who's best known as the founder of XM Satellite Radio, said the company aims to "deliver GPS-like reliability, accuracy and ubiquity to the indoor and dense urban environment." Priceline paid $103 a share under the deal, which was first announced in June. OpenTable will continue to be headquartered in San Francisco, operating as an independent unit of Priceline led by its current management team. "We look forward to supporting OpenTable's growth, through both enriched restaurant partnerships and innovative experiences for our collective customers," said Darren Huston, the president and CEO of Priceline. The company said it will use the proceeds to expand its user base, which currently stands at 1.7 million, grow its staff and further develop its app. The app combines photo sharing, community and fitness tracking, allowing members to share content around their personal fitness. Financial terms of the deal, first announced in June, were not disclosed. Opera said the acquisition will help it deliver mobile video advertising to publishers and advertisers.
