o TripAdvisor to Acquire San Francisco-Based Viator for $200 Million

San Francisco -- Continuing its rapid buying spree, Massachusetts-based travel website TripAdvisor said it will pay $200 million to acquire San Francisco-based Viator, an online provider of resources for researching and booking destination activities. Founded in 1995, Viator features more than 20,000 bookable tours and attractions and more than 600,000 reviews, photos and videos submitted by travelers. "Online and mobile bookings for attractions and activities represents a huge opportunity for our business," said Stephen Kaufer, the president and CEO of TripAdvisor. Viator has more than 250 employees who will continue to work at the company's headquarters in San Francisco and offices in Las Vegas, London and Sydney. In May, TripAdvisor acquired lafourchette, a Paris-based online restaurant booking platform, and earlier this year acquired Tripbod, a travel community that helps connect travelers to local experts.

o Study: IT Job Growth Fastest in Non-Traditional Sectors, Geographies

Arlington, Va. -- The rate of IT job creation over the next five years will actually be faster outside the technology sector than within it, according to new research from advisory firm CEB. The organization said the proportion of IT jobs created by the tech sector through 2018 is projected to stall or decline, while non-tech industries -- like manufacturing, automotive, healthcare and retail -- will realize large net gains in IT jobs created. That means that the bulk of the hiring won't occur in traditional IT hubs like California, Washington, Texas, and New York, but rather emerging IT cities such as Phoenix, Denver, Atlanta, Philadelphia and Oklahoma City. "The speed of change and hyper-specialization of skills in the IT workforce is creating competitive disruption," said Jean Martin, executive director of CEB. "We need to start thinking beyond Silicon Valley when searching for qualified IT workers."
