o Los Altos-Based Box Lands $150 Million Investment as IPO Looms

Los Altos, Calif. -- Buying more time for its planned initial public offering (IPO), Los Altos-based Box, the developer of an online file sharing and collaboration service, said on Tuesday it has landed a $150 million investment from TPG Growth and Coatue Management. Specific financial terms of the deal, which The Wall Street Journal reported values the company at $2.4 billion, were not disclosed. TPG Growth will appoint one director to the company's board. The news comes more than three months after Box revealed that it had filed with regulators to raise up to $250 million in its IPO. Box currently boasts more than 27 million individual users at more than 240,000 businesses. Clients include Chevron, Safeway, Pearson, Nationwide Insurance and General Electric.

o San Jose-Based RetailNext Raises $30 Million in New Funding Round

San Jose, Calif. -- RetailNext, a San Jose-based provider of e-commerce-style analytics to physical stores and shopping centers, said on Tuesday it has raised $30 million in a late-stage round of funding, led by Nokia Growth Partners. Qualcomm Ventures, Tyco, American Express, Activant Capital Group and previous backers August Capital, StarVest Partners and Commerce Ventures also participated. The company now has raised $59 million since its inception. RetailNext boasts more than 140 retail clients, who use its big data platform to improve customer experience, increase same-store sales, reduce theft and eliminate unnecessary costs. The technology is designed to measure the behavior of shoppers through data collected from more than 65,000 sensors in retail stores. The news comes seven months after the company acquired San Mateo-based Nearbuy Systems.

o Foster City-Based Cloudian Lands $24 Million in New Funding Round

Foster City, Calif. -- Cloudian, a Foster City-based developer of hybrid cloud storage software, said on Tuesday it has landed $24 million in a new round of funding, which included participation from new investors INCJ and Fidelity Growth Partners, and previous backer Intel Capital. The company will use the proceeds to expand its global sales and marketing activities. Michael Tso, Cloudian's co-founder and CEO, called the investment a "strong validation" to his company's focus on enterprise on-premises storage and hybrid cloud storage. Clients include Vodafone, Nextel, NTT, Nifty and LunaCloud.

o Palo Alto-Based Opus Global Acquires Hiperos in First Acquisition

Palo Alto, Calif. -- Opus Global, a Palo Alto-based risk and compliance technology company co-founded last fall by former VeriFone CEO Doug Bergeron, said on Tuesday it has acquired New Jersey-based Hiperos, a provider of web-based tools for information management, risk, compliance and performance. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. It marks the first acquisition for Opus Global, which plans to build through a series of targeted acquisitions. "We view Hiperos as the cornerstone of our strategy to build the preeminent risk and compliance platform in the world," said Bergeron. "We see tremendous opportunity globally as increased regulations and corporate risk focus has shifted to all third party exposures, not just suppliers." Bergeron, the CEO of Opus, will become executive chairman of Hiperos. Michele Flynn, the founder and chairman of Hiperos, will assume the role of vice chairman, with Greg Dickinson continuing to serve in his role as CEO. Hiperos counts Aetna, Alcoa, AON, Astra Zeneca, AXA, CA Technologies, Charles Schwab, Kraft Foods, Microsoft, News Corp., PNC Bank, Rockwell Automation, Sun Life Financial, State Street, TD Bank and United Technologies among its clients.

o San Francisco-Based Krux Opens International R&D Center in Sydney

San Francisco -- Krux, a San Francisco-based developer of cloud-based data management tools that last month raised $35 million in its second round of funding, said on Tuesday it has opened its first international research and development center in Sydney, Australia. The company has named Seth Yates, the founder and former CTO of Brandscreen, as its vice president of technology, heading the new center. Krux's cloud-based data management platform is designed to help marketers and publishers improve revenue and engagement with customers as they navigate between their laptops, tablets, smartphones and connected TVs. SAP Ventures led the company's second round of funding last month.
