Previous backers Tiger Global Management, Sequoia Capital and Javelin Venture Partners also participated in the round, which increases the company's total funding to $150 million since its inception in 2009. Thumbtack's service is designed to match users with available and qualified professionals in more than 700 categories, from home painters to math tutors to wedding DJs. The company said it sends an estimated $1.8 billion worth of business annually to more than 75,000 professionals. Customers hire contractors after comparing quotes, reviews, business profiles and, if necessary, calling or meeting them. The round, which increased the company's total funding to $62 million, also included new individual investments from Marc Benioff, the chairman and CEO of salesforce.com; Jim Davidson, the co-founder and managing partner of Silver Lake; and Steve Luczo, the chairman and CEO of Seagate Technology. Citing people with knowledge of the matter, the news service said that Hellman & Friedman is among the bidders, with Bain Capital also showing interest. The company reportedly may be valued at around $2 billion.
