o S.F.-Based Symphony Commerce Confirms $21.5 Million in Funding

San Francisco -- Confirming news first reported on Friday, San Francisco-based Symphony Commerce, a provider of commerce applications delivered as a service, said on Monday it has raised $21.5 million in its second round of funding. CRV led the round, which also included participation from previous backers Bain Capital Ventures and FirstMark Capital. As part of this transaction, Devdutt Yellurkar, a partner at CRV and former CEO of Yantra, has joined Symphony's board. Symphony's technology allows brands to collect data across each customer touch-point, letting them analyze keyword searches, page views and cart additions to create a branded invoice with intelligently selected add-ons. Customer invoices can include promotions like "Products You Might Also Like" or "Just For You" coupons to drive additional sales. The company said it will use the new funding to expand its engineering and sales teams. 

o adjust Lands $7.6 Million in Third Round of Funding

San Francisco -- adjust, the German developer of a business intelligence platform for mobile app developers, with U.S. headquarters in San Francisco, said on Monday it has raised $7.6 million in its third round of funding. Investors included ACTIVE Venture Partners and previous backers Target Partners, Iris Capital and Capnamic Ventures. The company, which now has raised $12.1 million since its inception, said it will utilize the funds to establish new regional offices. Beginning Oct. 1, Shawn Bonham will head up the company's Asian expansion in the newly created role of managing director for Japan and Southeast Asia. Clients of the company, formerly known as adeven, include Deutsche Telekom, Universal Music, Viacom, Scopely, Tango, DeNA and Kingsoft. (PDF)

o Palo Alto-Based LiveAction Raises $5.35 Million in First Round

Palo Alto, Calif. -- LiveAction, a Palo Alto-based developer of software designed to simplify network management, said it has raised $5.35 million in its first round of funding, led by AITV. Cisco Investments and Enerdigm Ventures also took part in the round, which the company will use to expand its sales and marketing efforts as well as accelerate product development. Brian Nugent, a general partner at AITV, will join the company's board of directors. 

o Bell Labs to Open New Research Office in Mountain View

Mountain View, Calif. -- Alcatel-Lucent's Bell Labs said on Monday it will open a new "antenna" office in Mountain View, where the company will conduct research aimed at evolving networks to deliver new cloud-based applications and services. "We know that the full impact of cloud computing will radically change not only our industry but also the way we live, work and communicate," said Marcus Weldon, the president of Bell Labs and CTO Alcatel-Lucent. "As we add this third antenna location… we expect to tap both the innovative spirit of the rich West Coast-based technology community as well as the wealth of real-world knowledge… to significantly change the course of the future." The Silicon Valley center will be the third Bell Labs antenna office to open this year, following the opening of a video facility in the U.K. in July and a virtualization research facility in Israel in May. 

o Palo Alto-Based Flipboard Acquires Talent of Ultravisual

Palo Alto, Calif. -- Flipboard, the Palo Alto-based developer of a social magazine app, said on Monday it has acquired the talent behind New York-based Ultravisual, developer of a visual network designed to let users share images, videos and comments around their interests. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. "Their deep understanding of how people collaborate around collections of content is particularly exciting since it is so relevant to the future of magazine making on Flipboard," said Flipboard CEO Mike McCue. 

o S.F.-Based Thoma Bravo Completes Investment in SailPoint

San Francisco -- Thoma Bravo, the San Francisco-based private equity firm, said on Monday it has closed its investment in Texas-based SailPoint, a developer of identity and access management tools. The agreement originally was announced on Aug. 12. Financial terms were not disclosed. SailPoint said it plans to use the funds to support future operational and product development plans.

(San Francisco) San Francisco-based Green Visor Capital, an investment firm focused on financial technology companies, on Monday named Louis Forster as a general partner. Forster most recently was a senior managing director of Cerberus Capital Management, and previously held senior roles at Angelo Gordon and Co. and the LeFrak Organization. 

(Palo Alto, Calif.) Be-Bound, the French developer of an Android app that makes it possible to get and to stay connected to the Internet on any existing network, said on Monday it has landed $4.5 million in its first round. The company, which has U.S. headquarters in Palo Alto, said investors included Gonzague de Blignières, former chairman of the Supervisory Equistone France and Barclays Private Equity France, as well as the Global Corporate Investment Holding.
