The deal, first announced in September, was expected to close on Wednesday. Location Labs CEO, Tasso Roumeliotis, will continue to lead the business. Under the agreement, AVG will pay $140 million upon closing, plus up to $80 million more over the next two years. AVG said the acquisition will expand its business in the mobile security market. Santa Clara, Calif. -- Intel, the Santa Clara-based chipmaker, said on Wednesday it has opened specially themed areas, dubbed "The Intel Experience," at 50 Best Buy retail stores nationwide. The hands-on areas are designed to give customers the opportunity to try technologies such as 3-D printing, augmented reality gaming and digital DJ remixing. "We wanted to give our customers a new way to experience Intel technology," said CJ Bruno, the corporate vice president and general manager of Intel Americas. o U.S. Tech Sector Grows in First Half, but Slower Than Overall Private Sector

Washington, DC -- The U.S. technology sector now employs 6.3 million workers, after adding 119,000 net jobs during the first half of 2014, according to new figures from the TechAmerica Foundation. The organization said that each of the five industries it examined -- technology manufacturing, telecom, software publishing, IT services and R&D, testing and engineering services -- recorded job growth during the period. Still, tech sector employment did not grow as fast as in the overall private sector market. "While the tech sector has generally outperformed other industry sectors over the past few years, we must recognize the challenges that come with transitions to new business models and the accompanying need to develop a tech workforce with the right mix of skills and experience," said Todd Thibodeaux, the president and CEO of CompTIA.
