o San Francisco-Based Drop Raises $2 Million in Seed Funding

San Francisco -- Drop, the San Francisco-based developer of an interactive recipe platform that works with a free app and connected kitchen scale to improve the skills of home bakers, said on Tuesday it has raised $2 million in a round of seed funding. Frontline Ventures and Innovation Works co-led the round, which also included participation from PCH, VegasTechFund and WI Harper Group. Drop said it plans to use the funds to build out its engineering, customer support and community teams, while also increasing its marketing activities. The company said it will conclude its current pre-order campaign on Oct. 19 in preparation for its formal launch later this fall. Drop's $99 scale connects to an iPad app via Bluetooth. The scale senses when an ingredient has been added to the bowl, then automatically guides users step-by-step through recipes. The company said it plans to release several more connected kitchen products, as well.

o IT Workers Cite Lack of Advancement, Crazy Workload as Top Frustrations

Menlo Park, Calif. -- Forty-five percent of information technology workers said being stuck in a job with few opportunities for professional advancement would cause them the most frustration on the job, according to a new survey by Menlo Park-based Robert Half Technology. Having an unmanageable workload (43%) and a limited ability to learn new skills (39%) follow closely behind. At least 30% of the 2,300 respondents also said they would feel frustrated by not feeling empowered to make decisions, not seeing eye-to-eye with their manager, not being acknowledged for good work and unrealistic expectations from customers. "IT workers worry about remaining relevant and marketable, and they look to their employers to help them acquire new skills and advance in their careers," said John Reed, senior executive director at Robert Half Technology. "Often, the ability to learn and grow can be as important as a competitive compensation package."
