o San Francisco-Based Minted Lands $38 Million in Fourth Round
San Francisco -- Minted, the San Francisco-based developer of an online marketplace for independent design and art, said on Thursday it has raised $38 million in its fourth round of funding, led by Norwest Venture Partners. Technology Crossover Venture also took part in the round, which the company will use to expand its business beyond stationary and art into textiles, while also rolling out a new storefront model. Customers now will have access to custom designed fabrics, curated from over 1,400 submissions by independent artists. As with stationery and art, submitted designs are critiqued and tweaked by the site's community of artists, and winners are selected through crowdsourcing and analytics. And, for the first time, Minted has activated a new storefront model to give artists and designers the opportunity to run their own businesses through the company's manufacturing and customer service platform. The company also has named Toby Lenk, founder of eToys and Gamefly, and former president of Gap Direct, to its board of directors.

San Francisco -- LiquidSpace, the San Francisco-based developer of an online marketplace for professional meeting and workspace, said on Thursday it has raised $14 million in its third round of funding, led by Roth Capital. Shasta Ventures, Black Diamond Ventures and Lucas Venture Group also participated, as did investors in the commercial real estate sector including Avison Young, GPT Group and Steelcase. LiquidSpace said it will use the proceeds to extend its product capabilities and aggressively expand. The company, which recently surpassed its 1 millionth transaction, allows users to instantly find and book meeting and office space, by the hour, day or longer, across the U.S., Canada and Australia. More than 5,500 workspaces in 600 cities are available through the platform. LiquidSpace also has named Groupon veteran Chuck Drake as its vice president of marketing.

o Francisco Partners Acquires Mountain View-Based Vendavo
San Francisco -- Francisco Partners, the San Francisco-based technology private equity firm, said on Thursday it has acquired a controlling stake in Mountain View-based Vendavo, a developer of big data tools designed to help businesses make better decisions about pricing. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. In conjunction with the acquisition, David Mitchell, an operating partner at Francisco, will become the new CEO of Vendavo, with current CEO Neil Lustig transitioning into an advisory role. Mitchell previously served as the president and CEO of Global 360 and CEO of webMethods.

o Sunnyvale-Based VytronUS Lands $31.6 Million in Second Round
Sunnyvale, Calif. -- VytronUS, a Sunnyvale-based medical device company developing technologies for the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias, said it has raised $31.6 million in its second round of funding, led by Apple Tree Partners. BioStar Ventures, Windham Venture Partners and New Enterprise Associates (NEA) also participated in the round, which the company will use to further develop its ultrasound system for treating atrial fibrillation. "This infusion of capital allows us to advance our next generation system," said CEO Michael Pederson. In a related move, the company said that Pederson will step down as CEO later this quarter to lead Abbott's newly formed electrophysiology business. No successor has been named.

o Autodesk to Invest Up to $100 Million in 3D Printing Startups
San Rafael, Calif. -- Autodesk, the San Rafael-based design software giant, said on Thursday it plans to invest up to $100 million in 3D printing startups over the next several years. The company will make the investments through its newly launched Spark Investment Fund, with recipients also gaining access to marketing and other developer services through a related partner program. "Numerous industries recognize the value of tapping into entrepreneurs or startups with better ideas and approaches, and 3D printing is no exception," said Samir Hanna, Autodesk's vice president and general manager of consumer products and 3D printing. "The Spark Investment Fund will empower innovators to improve 3D printing, and to help us unlock the tremendous promise of this technology." The company earlier this year launched its Spark 3D printing software platform, which is designed to connect digital information to 3D printers in a new way.

o Google Completes Sale of Motorola Mobility to Lenovo
Mountain View, Calif. -- Two years after paying $12.5 billion to acquire Illinois-based handset-maker Motorola Mobility, Mountain View-based Google said on Thursday it has completed its sale of the company to Lenovo for $2.9 billion. The deal, which makes Lenovo the world's third largest maker of smart phones, was first announced in January. Google will maintain ownership of most of Motorola's patent portfolio. Google originally bought the company with an eye on producing its own smartphones -- a notion that CEO Larry Page said no longer seems feasible. "The smartphone market is super competitive, and to thrive it helps to be all-in when it comes to making mobile devices," Page wrote in a blog post earlier this year. "It's why we believe that Motorola will be better served by Lenovo."
