o Santa Clara-Based Rovi Acquires San Mateo-Based Fanhattan
Santa Clara, Calif. -- Rovi, a Santa Clara-based developer of program search and navigation technology, said on Monday it has acquired San Mateo-based Fanhattan, a developer of cloud-based products that integrate live TV, video-on-demand and streaming services. Financial terms of the all-cash deal were not disclosed. Rovi said the acquisition will allow it to offer guidance and discovery using advanced cloud, user interface and hardware technologies. Fanhattan founders Gilles BianRosa and Olivier Chalouhi will take leadership roles in Rovi's Discovery Products Business Group.

o San Francisco-Based Dolby Completes Deal for Doremi Labs
San Francisco -- Dolby Laboratories, the San Francisco-based audio technology company, said on Monday it has completed its $92.5 million acquisition of Burbank-based Doremi Labs, a maker of digital cinema video playback systems. The deal was first announced in February. Launched in 1985, Doremi Labs is a developer of digital servers and format converters for the broadcast, postproduction and professional audio/visual markets. The company's technology is installed in more than 47,000 screens.

o San Francisco-Based Rock Health Raises Third and Largest Seed Fund
San Francisco -- Rock Health, a San Francisco-based investment firm focused on early stage digital health startups, on Monday announced the closing of its third and largest seed fund. The four-year-old firm said it now will be able to invest as much as $250,000 a deal, up from its previous cap of $100,000. Backing for the latest fund was co-led by Bessemer Venture Partners and Kaiser Permanente Ventures, with participation from Great Oaks Ventures, KPCB and Montreux Equity Partners. About two-thirds of Rock Health's portfolio companies are based in the Bay Area.

o Publicis Groupe to Acquire Sapient for $3.7 Billion
San Francisco -- In a marriage of two digital communications giants with local offices in San Francisco, France-based Publicis Groupe said on Monday it will pay $3.7 billion in cash to acquire Boston-based Sapient, a provider of business and technology consulting services. With the move, Publicis said it will launch a new arm called Publicis.Sapient, which will focus exclusively on digital communications and advertising. "We will enhance our leadership position in digital, achieve our goal of deriving 50% of our revenues from digital and technology three years ahead of our 2018 plan and leverage technology, consulting capabilities to expand in new verticals," said Maurice Lévy, the chairman and CEO of Publicis Groupe.
