o San Jose-Based Fenox VC Launches $200M Fund for Bangladesh Tech

San Jose, Calif. -- Fenox VC, a San Jose-based venture capital firm focused on technology, said on Monday it has launched a new $200 million fund to invest in Bangladesh's technology, Internet and media sectors. It marks the first time a VC firm from Silicon Valley has launched business operations in Bangladesh. Anis Uzzaman, the co-founder and CEO of Fenox, said the nation's tech sector has "tremendous potential," and that his firm hopes to promote "the advanced practices of Silicon Valley to Bangladeshi entrepreneurs." Concurrent with the move, Shameem Ahsan, an angel investor and president of the Bangladesh Association of Software & Information Services (BASIS), has been named a general partner.

o Both Thanksgiving and Black Friday Surpass $1 Billion in Online Spending

Reston, Va. -- For the first time ever, both Thanksgiving and Black Friday saw more than $1 billion in e-commerce sales in the U.S., according to new figures from comScore. The digital audience measurement firm said that Thanksgiving online spending grew 32% from a year ago to $1.01 billion, while Black Friday sales rose 26% to $1.51 billion. "Thanksgiving and Black Friday both saw exceptionally strong online growth rates," said Gian Fulgoni, comScore's chairman emeritus. "The strength we saw in the early online buying rush likely reflects a few things, including overall health in consumer spending, responsiveness to the strong deals being offered online, and perhaps some shoppers opting to stay home on Thanksgiving rather than head out to the stores that opened their doors early." For the holiday season-to-date, $22.7 billion has been spent online, a 15% increase over the same period a year ago.
