o Palo Alto-Based Pica8 Lands New Investment from Mitsui & Co.
Palo Alto, Calif. -- More than two months after initially closing its second round of funding, Palo Alto-based Pica8, a developer of open systems for software defined networking, said on Monday it has landed a new investment from Mitsui & Co. Global Investment. Financial terms were not disclosed. VantagePoint Capital Partners, Cross Head and Pacific Venture Partners co-led the round, which closed at $12.5 million in October. The company's Pica8's PicOS network operating system is designed to let users easily migrate from conventional networking to software-defined networking using commodity bare metal switches.

o San Francisco-Based Lending Club Increases Size of IPO
San Francisco -- Nearly four months after initially filing to raise up to $500 million in its initial public offering (IPO), San Francisco-based Lending Club, developer of an online marketplace connecting borrowers and investors, on Monday increased the potential size of the offering to $929 million. The company now says it plans to sell 50 million shares -- not including 7.7 million from current shareholders -- for between $12-$14 each. The IPO is expected to take place later this week. Lending Club's platform has facilitated more than $5 billion in loans since it first launched in 2007.

o Report: Instacart Raising $100 Million at $2 Billion Valuation
San Francisco -- Instacart, the San Francisco-based developer of a home grocery delivery service, is on the verge of closing more than $100 million of funding at a valuation of approximately $2 billion, TechCrunch reported. The value would give the company a valuation about five times higher than when it last raised funds in June. Kleiner Perkins is believed to be the lead investor, TechCrunch reported. Launched in 2012, Instacart has so far raised $154.8 million from investors including Andreessen Horowitz, Khosla Ventures, Sequoia and Canaan Partners, among others. The company currently operates in the Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Boulder, Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, New York City, Philadelphia, Portland, San Francisco, San Jose, Seattle and Washington, DC areas.

o San Francisco-Based Climate Corp. Acquires 640 Labs
San Francisco -- The Climate Corp., a San Francisco-based division of Monsanto that makes software and hardware designed to improve farming operations, said on Monday it has acquired Chicago-based agricultural technology startup 640 Labs. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Founded by engineers Corbett Kull and Craig Rupp, 640 Labs utilizes analytics, mobile technologies and cloud computing to help farmers capture and store in-field data. Its staff will join Climate Corp., bolstering that company's efforts to build a data science platform for farmers.

San Francisco -- Quantcast, a San Francisco-based developer of real-time advertising and audience measurement technology, on Monday announced the hiring of two top executives. The company has named Peter Kuipers as its CFO and Peter Sirota as its senior vice president of engineering. Kuipers most recently served as CFO of The Weather Company, while Sirota was general manager of Amazon Elastic MapReduce. The hires come two months after Quantcast acquired U.K.-based Struq, a developer of technology designed to help advertisers personalize their ads for online users.
