o Burlingame-Based Tandem Raises $100 Million for Third Fund

Burlingame, Calif. -- Tandem, a mobile accelerator based in Burlingame, said it has raised $100 million for its third investment fund, known as Tandem Fund III. The amount triples the size of the organization's previous fund. Tandem said it will continue to work with founders to launch their businesses and raise outside funding within six months. "What's new is that Tandem Fund III enables us to partner with startups beyond the acceleration phase and through their entire growth trajectory," the firm said. Startups accepted into Tandem's program begin with a $200,000 initial investment, and can receive as much as $10 million from the fund over time. In addition, Tandem said it expanded the scope of its mobile acceleration program to include startups working on Internet of Things and connected devices.

o Report: San Francisco-Based Zoosk Cuts 15% of Staff

San Francisco -- A month after delaying plans for its initial public offering (IPO) and announcing top management changes, San Francisco-based Zoosk, the operator of an online dating platform, has cut 15% of its staff, TechCrunch reported. The moves, which account for roughly 25 employees, reportedly are part of a larger effort to trim expenses, and follow a tumultuous period for the company. Zoosk, which claims to have 29 million members, filed last April to raise up to $100 million in its IPO, but delayed those plans last month because of market conditions. The company said it plans to reevaluate its IPO plans in the coming months. Co-founders Shayan Zadeh and Alex Mehr also stepped back from their day-to-day roles, with CFO Kelly Steckelberg stepping up to the role of CEO.
