o San Francisco-Based Planet Labs Raises $70 Million in Third Round

San Francisco -- Planet Labs, a San Francisco-based provider of satellite imagery services, on Tuesday announced the first closing of its $70 million third round of funding, led by Data Collective. The round also included new investors as well as several previous backers. Zachary Bogue, Data Collective's co-managing partner, will join the company's board of directors. Planet Labs also closed a $25 million debt facility from Western Technology Investment. The funding comes in the wake of Planet Labs' launch of 73 satellites, as well as the recent hiring of Tom Barton, the former CEO of Rackable Systems, as COO. The company also began the year in a new office located in San Francisco's SOMA neighborhood.

o San Francisco-Based AppsFlyer Raises $20 Million in Second Round

San Francisco -- AppsFlyer, the San Francisco-based developer of a mobile advertising measurement platform, said on Tuesday it has raised $20 million in its second round of funding, led by Fidelity Growth Partners Europe (FGPE). Previous backers Magma Venture Partners and Pitango Venture Capital also took part in the round, which increased the company's total funding to $28 million. The company said it will sue the proceeds to accelerate the development of new products, including tools to help marketers measure the impact of their advertising, marketing and retargeting campaigns. It also plans to open new international offices and bolster its knowledge center. Gaurav Tuli of FGPE will join AppsFlyer's board of directors. AppsFlyer is an official mobile measurement partner of Facebook, Twitter and Google.

o Plaxo Co-Founder Minh Nguyen Arrested for Murder

Sunnyvale, Calif. -- The co-founder of Sunnyvale-based social network Plaxo has been charged with murdering his ex-wife's new husband in Virginia. Police say Minh Nguyen broke into the couple's townhouse Thursday night and shot Corey Mattison. He was arrested without incident inside the home. Nguyen has been charged with first-degree murder and use of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He remains held at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center on no bond. In 2002, Nguyen teamed with Napster co-founder Sean Parker and two Stanford University engineering students to launch Plaxo, an online address box and social networking service acquired by Comcast in 2008. He most recently has served as a venture advisor for TandemNSI.

o Campbell-Based AOptix Names Michael Klayko as CEO, Raises Funds

Campbell, Calif. -- AOptix, a Campbell-based developer of ultra-high capacity wireless communications technology, on Tuesday named Michael Klayko as its new CEO, and announced a new growth round of funding. Financial details of the round, which the company will use to capitalize on its Intellimax wireless backhaul technology, were not disclosed. Klayko is the former CEO of Brocade Communications Systems, and earlier was the CEO of Rhapsody Networks, which was acquired by Brocade in 2003. He has served on the company's board since last May. Kevin Compton, partner emeritus at investor Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, called Klayko's experience and "passion" for growing companies "exactly what AOptix needs as we enter our next chapter of growth."

o San Francisco-Based RichRelevance Names New CEO and Chairman

San Francisco -- RichRelevance, a San Francisco-based developer of e-commerce personalization tools for retailers, on Tuesday named Eduardo Sanchez as its new CEO and Bill Pearce as its executive chairman. David Selinger, the company's founder and former CEO, will continue to serve on the board of directors. "We're at a perfect inflection point for this transition," said Selinger. "Eduardo's leadership and operational skills will ensure RichRelevance maximizes the company's potential for expanded growth." Sanchez joined RichRelevance as president in 2013, and previously spent 16 years at MicroStrategy. Pearce, most recently the CMO of Del Monte, has been a member of the company's board for three years. The moves come more than seven months after the company raised $20 million in a round of funding led by Centerview Capital Technology.

Redwood City, Calif. -- Equinix, a Redwood City-based owner and operator of data centers, said on Tuesday it has acquired New York-based Nimbo, a provider of services focused on helping clients develop and implement hybrid cloud IT architectures. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Equinix said the acquisition will help build its professional services capabilities to support data center migrations, WAN optimization and the creation of hybrid clouds. Nimbo, which was ranked No. 480 in last year's Inc. 500, specializes in migrating business applications to the cloud, with experience moving legacy applications into a hybrid cloud architecture and connecting legacy data centers to the cloud.
