o Visa to Remove 16-Digit Account Numbers in Online and Mobile Payments

Foster City, Calif. -- Credit card giant Visa said on Friday that it will expand its use of a security technology that replaces traditional 16-digit account number with a unique series of numbers for all online and mobile payments in an effort to prevent the exposure of consumer account information. The company debuted its Visa Token Service (VTS) in September, and it now is in use by more than 500 financial institutions. "In 2015, Visa will offer secure payments across a wide variety of devices, platforms and apps," said CEO Charlie Scharf. "Removing card account numbers from the processing and storage of payments represents one of the most innovative and promising technologies we’ve seen in decades." Visa also plans to tokenize transactions initiated online with Visa Checkout, the company's online payment service.

o Information Technology Employment Sees Boost in New Year

Alexandria, Va. -- The number of information technology jobs in the U.S. grew 0.4% last month to 4.8 million, according to new figures from the TechServe Alliance, a national trade association for the IT and engineering staffing industry. On a year-over-year basis, IT employment has grown by 4.7% since Jan. 2014, adding 216,800 IT workers. "Following robust growth in 2014, all indications are that we will have another strong year for IT and engineering employment in 2015," said Mark Roberts, CEO of the TechServe Alliance. "While I am confident demand will remain strong absent a macro-economic or political shock, an inadequate supply of talent in high demand skill sets will continue to be a challenge."
